Halloween themed Scene It (Memory Game)
« on: October 16, 2020, 12:06:10 pm »
This is a Halloween-themed Scene It game. There are 10 video clips altogether, but I've only ever been able to make it to clip #7. This was made for middle school students in mind, so a few of the videos may be too scary for younger students.

File size is around 700 mb. It's very media heavy. I embedded the fonts, but I also included the font files just in case the embed fails.

Let me know if you have any trouble accessing or downloading the folder.

Edit - Separate download link for the vid files, in case the embeds don't work for you.

Edit 2 - Hanshow friendly versions:

Hi! I am having trouble downloading the file :(

Can you specify what kind of trouble you're having? Are you getting any sort of an error message? Are you being denied access? Does it freeze while in the middle of downloading?

excellent. what do you think off the top of your head, suitable for G3 elementary students? (just so i don't have to sift through the clips myself)

excellent. what do you think off the top of your head, suitable for G3 elementary students? (just so i don't have to sift through the clips myself)

So here are the clips, in order:
1] Gravity Falls (Episode: The Inconveniencing)
2] Paranorman
3] Coraline
4] Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark
5] The Amazing World of Gumball (Episode: Halloween)
6] The Corpse Bride
7] The Ghostbusters (2016 version)
8] Monsters University
9] Paranorman (yes, twice)
10] Hotel Transylvania 3

#4 (Scary Stories) is definitely not suitable, so I'd either hide or delete those slides.

The ones that some teachers might find questionable would be for Paranorman (#2 and #9), The Corpse Bride (#6), and The Ghostbusters (#7). The first Paranorman clip is rather tame and should be okay, but the second one features a struggle that some more sensitive young students might find a little much or that parents may not like. I recommend watching them all so that you can make that determination for yourself, though, especially if you don't have very laidback coteachers.

All of the others are okay.

I also want to warn that a lot of the questions may be a little too difficult for G3, so you should adjust them as needed. I'd personally just make them all multiple choice.

Thank you for this! Looking forward to playing this with my middle school students, it's been hard to think of fun activities that we can do without being in teams/groups.

Since we can't be in teams, I plan to make an answer sheet and give candy if they get a certain amount correct.

I'm getting an error message saying "media unavailable" for all the video files, and they don't work. Do you have YouTube links or another way to get the video clips?

You probably just need to install Quicktime Player. It's free, here's the download site: https://support.apple.com/downloads/quicktime

I can upload the videos in a separate file, but I'm afraid I won't be able to until much later today. I'll post that download link when I can for people who're still having trouble playing the embedded videos. In the meantime, try installing quicktime and let me know how it works afterwards.

Edit - Nevermind, had a class cancelled on me, so I could do this just now. I included the link for the vid files in the first post, but here it is:

I didn't end up installing QuickTime because I use the teacher's computer in each classroom and I don't know if I'd be able to install anything on their computers. But I downloaded the videos, so thank you so much!

Someone on another site said that they were having trouble playing this in hanshow. I don't work with that program at all, so I don't know the ins or outs of it, but I edited this game to use more simple fonts that might work out better in hanshow.

Here's the game with changed fonts and the embedded videos removed:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1f4Zk3PTA-wd4OdJMyHyQi6WDmwBfPefw/view

And this is a version of the game with the changed fonts but with the embedded videos kept in:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/15n4qEeEStEc93O2q7j7wQpVSp5TEWXnG/view?usp=sharing

If you're using hanshow to play this, please let me know if either file works for you.

I got Scene It from another site and it plays fine with Hanshow for me.  It looks great, and I'll be using it with grade 6 on Friday.
