What is your favourite movie theatre chain?
« on: August 06, 2020, 03:25:49 pm »
Might as well roll with it.  Have at it Waygs.

This thread is dedicated to Ronald, Donald and Gloober.

CGV has the most theatres and the best presentation of the Big Three chains.

Lotte has a very nice screen in Jamsil at Lotte World Mall but I find their selection lacking.

Megabox has the least impressive screens, generally but they do have the ArtNine theatre in Isu which shows a lot of art films and, having lived on Line 4 for the last 5 years, has always been relatively close to me. They also have the MX Theatres with superior sound and have just opened a Dolby Atmos one in COEX, ewhich I have yet to experience.

CGV it is.

The first thing to say is that this is definitely not pyramid selling, OK?

Cinecube in Gwanghwamun was a fun experience. I saw “Okja” there; one of the few places it was playing in Korea.

Cineplex Odeon. :)

There were only three screens in my home town until Odeon opened a 4-plex downtown when I was starting middle school. Later an 8-screen Odeon opened in a new neighborhood and we had 15 screens for a city of 80,000 until a few years later the 4-plex closed.

I saw A LOT of movies in my teenage years.

In Korea I DVD'd it 2002+ (bought a big screen TV) until I got a smartphone and ditched the TV and watch most films on the handheld screen, though the local 2-screen Megabox (town has 50,000 people) or theaters of whatever stripe in Jinju or Daegu I have frequented.

Love PIFF and JIFF.

CGV is dope. Some of the screens have bigger seats on the edge that are not advertised as such.

Fun fact. I've never sat in the front row to watch a movie.
Haven't you got some pictures of birds to be jacking off to, son?

im all about those side seats. i think front row varies pretty drastically though. front row in most CGVs i've seen isn't actually that close. on the other hand, front row in some movie theaters in the US is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy yyy too close

top tip for cinema builders. don't bother installing a front row of seats, nobody ever uses them. simply start with the second row

That advice has something of a #Based lifehack ring to it.

I rather prefer the front seats myself. You can really stretch out.

As far as best seats for experience goes, centre (in a left to right sense) and 2/3 of the way back.

This is where the audio installers sit when they tune the speaker system.

I think the point of the joke was there always has to be a front row of seats.

TYBG.

Also, CGV is objectively the best.

There's a ciniplex where I live that has comfortable seats. However, I miss going to the theater. When there was one in town, and a velvet curtain, a guy would come onstage and welcome folks to the movie, ushers would show you to your seat if you wished, or were late.

Going to the movies was a thing, not a time killer like it is today.

Nonetheless, gimme a book. I have seen an extreme few movies that are as good as the book. Papillon is the only one the comes to mind...oh yeah and The Shining.
