Change in work hours
« on: June 22, 2020, 07:54:35 am »
So I was told (verbally) that the work hours at my new job would be 8am-5pm, but after I signed the contract my employer told me that because of the increase in covid cases they had to shift to a different class schedule in which I would work 8am-8pm (with long breaks in between) to cover evening classes. My contract doesn't state anything regarding work hours, just that the maximum is 25 hours/week.

Has anyone else had a similar issue and is there any legal course of action I can take should things go awry?

Why did you sign a contract that doesn't specify the hours? :o

If it doesn't state the hours in the contract I would say you are out of luck

I agree with the other posters. Working hours is a very basic thing that should be stated in the contract. It sounds like the employer is within their right to adjust the schedule if it's not stated in the contract. Let this be a learning experience for you and learn to be a bit more selective with the next contract. Good luck!

Never accept verbal promises.  Always get it in writing.
