My American friend just became a real estate agent!
« on: May 26, 2020, 01:42:06 pm »
Yes, he passed his exams and is now a real estate agent.....in Singapore.

Can you ever imagine such a fantastically improbable thing happening in Korea?

For mighty whities, in Korea, career moves are always sideways and never up.

(With the possible exception of publicans.)

I don't know, Sam Hammington's career seems to be entering the stratosphere. (Or should I say 'chatosphere'.)

I didn't realize that being a real estate agent was such a step-up...

What do you mean always "sideaways"?  I knew a guy who went from Toss English to become a visiting professor at a prestigious Korean university.

His Korean wife is a member of the Faculty Wives Club, and his university has even published some of his poetry.

It's great he taught himself Korean.  But why does he act like a retard?  Is he also a comedian?  A bad one at that?  I can't stand watching him.

Places like Singapore chew up foreigners and spit them out just like Korea does, they've just been doing it for longer so they're more subtle about it. Also they have a lot of low-paid foreign laborers, which is also on the rise in Korea.

Now you know how Asians felt during the 80s and up until the early 90s when Hollywood finally chilled.

Nice of you to give a shit about NETs/Foreigners who aren't white.

Also, maybe if you worked at, I don't know, some Fortune 500 company that has a branch office in Korea, you might not be stuck moving sideways. That and if you became fluent in the language.

What's his visa status in Singapore? Is it easier for foreigners to get non-teaching jobs there?

The thing is: his children are funnier than him now. He doesn’t need to be shown on screen anymore.

Not only has he sold them into child labour but he's made the older one wear a girl's haircut. That's a double helping of abuse.

Couple of questions:

1/ What subject does he teach? Engineering, mathematics, anthropology or maybe.......English?
2/ Does he have life long tenure?
3/ What is his Ph.D. in?

Having said that there was a guy who used to post on Dave's Cafe who claimed he came over to teach English in the 90s and progressed to be a fully tenured university professor in Sociology, I think.

Ever stop to think that your mediocre outcomes might be due to your own thinking and actions and not Korea?
