It's really fortunate you are able to get 3 million won in unemployment. Any increased love for Dems as well?

This is exactly what I am doing.  I was in Korea until until April 3 and came back to the US.  As my employment in Korea fell through due to the virus, I qualified for the Pandemic Unemployment Assistance AND the $600 a week (including back pay)

Amazing! How did you qualify? Your hagwon cut you, not the contract ran out? And because of this you could collect American unemployment benefits? I wondering about all the situations in which Americans would be eligible? How much are you getting per week now? $600 plus how much?

More than that. The $600 alone would be more than 3 million won a month.

How did you get through the lines while 60 minutes reported on people not being able to get anyone on the phone to complete their application? Is it easier to apply in some States? I still think that 40 million is not exaggerated, rather it is hiding a much higher number.

If people could get big bucks for not working why would they not choose that?

Some are continuing to work, but working from home. A lot of the economy is digitized. Others - like nurses - have been working the whole time with no change in location. Same with grocery store workers. The economy didn’t completely shut down. Some businesses - like pizza joints - saw a big boost in sales and profits. Many orders for home delivery of pizza. Weight’s going up. That means folks are eatin’ good.

Maybe you are right but in Europe it's over. We're prepping for the worst crash ever so I'm buying bank stocks with all my savings.

Yes, I AMfortunate.  As the Senate passed it, I see it as more of a bipartisan venture.  The House worked together on it and a deal was thought to have been reached.  Then, at the 11th hour, Nancy Pelosi comes back making demands that had nothing to do with with the intent upon which it was written up.

The next package, passed again by the house, is nothing but a ruse. to make the Senate look bad when they veto it and I will not complain if they do.  I have no desire to be on the doll for a long period of time.

It is a dangerous line.  Yes, I am thankful I have this.  But, when the masses get used it, it will be hard to convince them to give it up, and, those folks will vote based on that....

...and its more like 4 million won a month.

(But this will all come at a price....I would not be surprised if the dollar completely crashes at some point.  Hence, the government is giving away soon-to-be-worthless money)

Still...for the time being, it certainly beats the Land of the Morning Suckhole.    But, I will keep watch for a position I want and will feel good about....and unless it is like a position I had in the past, working 2-6, with full benefits, I won't be accepting any of this 2.1/2.2 million won a month....may as well go to Thailand when it opens back up.

hmm, i'm going to bet on oil shorts in September, risky but maybe a chance to 10-fold profits. Sounds like 4 million could be a fun bet, don't you think?

That will never happen. The U.S. dollar is the most trusted, most sought after currency. People around the world are betting on it way more than Canadian money, South Korean money, South African money, etc. America's money will never become worthless. No way in hell. The United States = the most powerful country in the world for as long as we live.

"Never" is a bold world...and as much as I love my country, it cannot stay afloat with over 20 trillion in dept.  Who is next in line, licking their chops, waiting to swoop in looking like the good guy?  China.

All things pass.

Congress controls purse strings...whether Democrat or Republican-both are equally guilty.

Anyway...this thread is about show shitty the salaries are in Korea...and, possibly how shitty Korea is in general.

Pick your poison.

Your last sentence is the takeaway. Nobody ever stays at the top forever. How long you got to live, man? 30 years? 40? 50? The USA will still be on top for a while, but I wouldn't bet it being on top in 30 years. I would hardcore bet against the USA being on top in 50. Do you have any idea what's going on in SE Asia and Africa. China isn't coming, man. They are here. Have you been to Sihanoukville lately? See the train system around these parts? China and the 5G network? Zoom? China is here baby and they're building military bases on artificial atolls in the South China Sea.  And you capitalist dunderheads best get your collective heads outta the sand because it's damn near too late right now.

Frankly, I'm curious whether China would screw the world over less, the same, or more than the USA has done for decades.

Until these countries get like 75% of their populations solidly into the middle class (making north of at least $20,000 US), the US Dollar will reign supreme until that happens.
