Research shows that attentiveness and effectiveness in schools improves if there is at least one school day off per month.

For me too.  Ha ha.

But seriously, I wish May and October had the vacations here instead of summer and winter here when the weather is less good.
Happy Teachers Day to New Orleans.

Not much of a break for those in public schools though as the school year days have to be adjusted. You'll get the red days off, but will have to make up for them :(
I believe my school, and probably a lot of other schools, is marking those days a 'home training' days (자가연수). Or some other self-development scheme.

Government made new red days this year only - second semester.

They are Monday's following holidays that fall on the weekends.

These temporary red days for this year will be on:

August 16th
October 4th
October 11th
December 27th

Evidently, the government wants people to spend and travel.

Mark it on your phone and calendar.

This is how it's worked in Ontario forever.

You get so many holidays a year. The fact that it happens on a SAT/SUN shouldn't bone one out of a day off at the whim of the calender.

I imagine it's like this most places.  You have the actual holiday and the observed day, and it's never observed on a weekend. (because most businesses are closed on a weekend).  I told students we did this in the US and they were in utter shock.  I'm glad they finally get to experience it here.
