This doesn't sound too kosher. Should I be paying the key money for my apartment? I'm at a new school and they're withdrawing 300,000 key money for 3 months from my paycheck.

I'm in Gyeonggi-do.

Advice? opinions?

Public school or hakwan?  Anyways, it seems to be far too low to be key money.   It is exactly what  public school security deposits are and hakwans vary in security deposits.  My guess is there has just been a miscommunication and this is a security deposit.

Public school. Key money for a one room? Maybe too low, but seems high for a security deposit.

I'm actually asking for a friend who just moved here. My security deposit for my one room was 500,000.

Thanks! :)

That's the security deposit stated in the GEPIK contract.  I lived in Gyeonggi-do for four years and they took 300,000 from my first 3 paychecks as well.

As long as there are no damages when you finish your contract, you will get that money back after you leave.  I just left and they will use the 900,000 to pay for my last month's utility payment and then they will send me the rest.
