Condoms in South Korea
« on: February 09, 2020, 08:10:39 pm »
Hello everyone,

I am a student in a French business school living in Paris. I am currently working on a communication project concerning the Durex brand in Korea. I am having some problems because I cannot find information about Durex competitors in Korea or reliable figures on the condom market in Korea. I do not even understand the positioning or the targeting of the Durex Korea brand which has not advertised for a very long time and which does not post anything on its social networks.

This is how I come to ask for your help, if you live in Korea and can provide me with any information about the condom market in Korea, it would help me a lot! Even if you just want to talk about your experience of condoms in Korea, where you buy them, if Durex is advertised in Korea, what brand of condom you use in Korea or whatever, any information could help me!

Thank you in advance

Condom marketing in Korea is a little strange.

Durex does advertise, sometimes on TV, but mostly online. Condoms are available everywhere, from convenience stores to major supermarkets.

Most major supermarkets carry international brands such as durex, playboy, okamoto and sagami as well as local brands I rarely pay attention to...except for manskin 001 premium, which is made by ausung (probably Korea’s largest condom maker). The 001 versions of these brands are rare in korean supermarkets (with the exception of manskin), but they are readily available in adult shops.

My preferences in order would be sagami 001 (not readily available in major supermarkets), followed by okamoto skinless 2000 (also not readily available), followed by manskin 001 (can be a little difficult to find...but their 002 is everywhere), and playboy (everywhere).

Asian sizing though.  Every good western idea, food, clothing, etc is put through an Asian lens and changed to something different and unrecognizable to most western expats.  In short, Asian rubbers are too small for me (though some regular sized Trojans are too tight and small also for me).  Products from western countries that leave western countries often have to be changed in some ways to sell or survive in those other markets.

@hangook77, maybe try with a grocery bag?  (reduce/reuse/recycle, sorta)

can't offer any other advise, I don't use 'em, but I always re-use my grocery bags.

on the other hand, maybe don't... just realized how bad it would be for everyone, what if they decided to recycle those bags someday?

on the other hand, maybe don't...

So, only use it on one hand?

Don't know if it helps but the most prevalent condoms i've seen are something like DUO as the maker.

Hello,
A lot of people think the same about asian sizing.
Thanks a lot for your answer :)

http://gsearch.gmarket.co.kr/Listview/Search?keyword=durexhttp://item2.gmarket.co.kr/English/detailview/item.aspx?goodscode=430344442

You can clearly see that Durex's global marketing is not a good fit for Korean culture.

Bonne chance!

The brand name “Soft” and the model “slim” aren’t really great to associate with this product.
