Do you have to do medical exam every year, even if renew same school?

frankly I might just opt to leave if this is a required thing seeing as I haven't had great success with anesthesia in the past.  well hopefully Korean hospitals aren't too stingy with it

there was another required procedure for women I refuse to get, so I told them no, and that I had already had one. I have had one and the doctor recommended I DO NOT get them anymore. they didn't seem to have an issue with that.

So from what I understand, you should get the visa health check every time you renew your visa/contract. You should get the national health check every other year depending on if your birth year is even or odd. This year is even numbers. The test also various by age. For example, if your older (40's)  you have to get the endoscopy test but you don't have to do certain tests like that if your younger. It depends on your health risks. If you don't get the medical check up then your insurance could potentially be higher and they will not help cover cancer care if you didn't receive the cancer screenings. Also, you can choose to not do certain medical tests if you already had them done within the year at a smaller doctors office. Like the cervix cancer screening.

The visa health check up can vary depending on your contract though.

Also the price for the visa check up varies by location. So it's best to look around for a good price. The national insurance test is free if you get it the year you should be checked out.

That's what  I've been told/understand about it. If your staying in Korea, just get it done, better safe than sorry. If you're going to be leaving Korea soon,  I don't think it matters that much. Also, for Epik teachers, you may be able to take official leave to get it done. As long as your VP and P agree of course. Since most of the visa test is the same as the national health insurance test, I asked to have them both done at the same time. I did it on a Friday and got my results back on Monday. I did still have to pay for the visa test though. I feel like I basically just payed for a piece of paper but it's done and I don't have to worry.

I always teach in hagwons but suddenly i had to get one in December 2017, 2018 and... i again was asked - am at the same academy, haven't traveled overseas - in 2019. I said okay, okay each of the times i was reminded but didn't go. I was surprised that there was no blowback, no comment at all. Maybe the COVID19 year changed the game. I see no need to ever get an x-ray again.

Note: my director booked appointments for a endoscopy to check for stomach cancer. I said bluntly i won't do it. My mom's church was against it. And if it is needed then i guess i will have to go back to Canada. He never mentioned it again.

Looking to do my medical check-up cheaply in Seoul. I usually go to 고려대 in Anam, but  that cost me about 100k last time. Any suggestions on cheaper ones? Preferably close to Korea University.

Your school can't withhold your cheque...that would be illegal.

If you're leaving the country, nobody will care. If you're staying in the country, you'll have to do the health check at your new school.

for the endoscope to the stomach, I do recommend anesthesia. I opted out of it and am still traumatized. lol

UPDATE: Yesterday I was informed by our hagwon's receptionist that i have to do a health checkup this year. She started working here in the spring and is more keen at doing things than the last lackadaisical chill cool gal we had (in my 18 years here i have never had a male hagwon receptionist). I have a form to take to a hospital, an address to go to, the receptionist's phone number.

I will go, either... the last week in December (if she berates me) or the week after the director/owner tells me directly (which he hasn't been around when the topic has been discussed). Otherwise, I will let it all go out the window. Like I did last year.

The government started getting really anal about these tests around the end of 2017.
