Incorrect severance pay
« on: February 03, 2020, 05:58:01 pm »
Hi guys, I ended up having to leave Korea for health reasons. I worked 32 months and just received my severance pay right now. It was 2.2 million. Is that right? I thought severance pay was n/12 X the average of the last 90 days pay. So for me, it would’ve been (32/12) X 2.5 minus tax. Am I wrong? What do I do? I’ve already left Korea.

Yeah definitely not right. Was your last pay a full month? Did your school withhold anything? You will have to contact your school first and then may have to contact moel. You can also try filing an online complaint on the epeople website.

I agree with Thunderlips about contacting your school first and see if there was a mistake.

However, it is too low.  2.2 x 2.5 years would be 5.5, but there would be a small amount of tax deducted maybe around 3% depending on how you filed your taxes and the tax bracket you ended up in.

If you worked for the same employer for those 2 and a half years then they have to pay you pro-rata for those 6 months.
