I guess it's about that time, and I'm sat here deskwarming with nothing better to do (no, I'm not lesson planning. please don't call the Deskwarming Police!). Might as well see what stood out to everyone this year, and perhaps introduce y'all to some good stuff you might've missed.

Without further ado, here are my picks:

No love for the new Tool album?

I listened through it once. Nothing grabbed me. The only things that stood out to me where the parts that sounded almost exactly the same as parts from 10,000 days. I'm sure I'll give it another go at some stage.

I feel you. 2019 wasn't a big year for me either, musically. Think the birth of my daughter had something to do with that (can't hear music over the crying lol). But if I had to choose a standout, it'd be Russian Circles - Blood Year. Can't recommend them enough:

Yeah same here, didn't get into too much new stuff this year.  The only standouts for me were Sunn O)))'s two new albums.  Loved both equally.  The new Boris album was ok but I find myself just going back to their older stuff.

Went to only one gig this year (the absolute crying shame of living in Korea); Deafheaven in Seoul which was brilliant    I thought I'd see a few more foreigners there to be honest haha.

EDIT:  Big shoutout to Titus Groan for his music posts all year.  Pretty much everything he shares is gold.

Yeah, they're one of my favorite bands and their last album was far and away my favorite album the year it came out, so the new one didn't really stand a chance at living up to my expectations. It did grow on me a fair bit after a few listens, especially when I listened to it when I was in a mood that was more receptive to the sort of atmosphere they were going for this time around. That's Boris for you, I guess. They've always been all over the place, and I love them for it.

It's weird to me to see people saying this wasn't a good year for music. I actually really struggled to whittle my list down to ten, given all the great music I got this year. The above-mentioned Devin Townsend, for example, was on my list for a few months, and it was fairly last minute that I bumped it off in favor of the new Rotting Christ.

I completely forgot that their Tears EP came out last year as well.  I listened to that a lot haha.

Also forgot about this.  I think there are a few Ghost fans on Waygook, what did people think of it?  I loved it but I hope their next new music is darker and heavier.  Hopefully we'll get an EP in 2020.

Late last year I went through a short phase of obsession with Mayhem.  God knows how many times I listened to their first album and Live in Leipzig.  Them and Darkthrone.  I'd listen to Transilvanian Hunger (song) on repeat when I exercised haha.  What a time to be alive!

Did you hear Gloryhammer's new album last year, Mister Tim?  Another 2019 release I forgot about haha.  They're probably my favourite Power Metal band.  So many good songs across all three of their albums.
