2020 and Your Goals and Aspirations
« on: January 06, 2020, 01:44:50 pm »
It's a new year, and it's a new school year very soon. So, what are some things you hope to achieve this year?

I want to be able to do 20 pullups/have some definition in my "adonis belt" region by the summer.

Save 5000$.

Have a working makgeolli brewery in my new apt.

Go to Cambodia.

1. Get in better shape and eat better - I need stronger back muscles due to a prior injury/surgery (techniques for strengthening these??? )
2. Stress less/let it go
3. Go to a new country for vacation
4. Level up my Korean speaking skills and finally take the TOPIK test
5. Take and pass my taekwondo test and get back into practicing everyday/same level I was a few years ago
6. Save $7,000

I'd like to say something like: lose weight. I do want to lose weight however, there is no gym near me, I don't like running and jogging. And the school doesn't have much in the way of equipment.

I want to try focus on eating better, trying to cut out chocolate and sweets, or at least reducing my intake of them a lot.
Be a bit more charitable. I usually give to charity twice a year. Usually once around christmas, and once at a random time earlier in the year. As, I'm 1 payment away from paying off my student loan. Once that is paid off, I want to give a decent amount to a charity with each paycheck.
I want to travel to a couple countries I haven't been to yet: thinking of Belgium and France currently.

I don't really have much in the way of goals and dreams haha.
I guess, also to save up for my move to Japan next year too. :p but I don't have a specific amount in mind. I'll probably get $8k - $10k saved up this year, if not more, and my severence will be around 9 - 10k as well.

1.  Save 7052
2.  Make this my final year here.  It's comfortable and I love my school and that's mutual.  But it has to end sometime.
3.  Start networking outside of Korea.  I can do it.
4.  Continue eating my breakfast of blueberries, pomegranate with yoghurt on top.  Then a further topping of sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and flax seeds.  For a vegetarian, my cholesterol is strangely high.  Also adding in, do at least one hour of exercise a day, even when all my night classes start again.

2. start running again

Word on the street is, this is your usual method when leaving department stores. *Renton*

1) Travel more. I've been putting off a lot of what I'd planned before because I keep waiting on friends to be available, but it's time to go solo. Countries I'd love to visit before leaving Korea: Vietnam, Morocco, and India.

2) Submit my application to grad school so that I can finally get started on that Masters degree (I want to sign up for a program where I can do half of the courses online -- that way I can start it here but finish it back in the States once I'm about halfway through).

3) Try to write moar. It's been at a standstill for over a year now and I really need to get back into it.

4) ... maybe buy a mathbook or two to brush up on my math skillz, haha.

1. Buy a new wardrobe.

I hadn't bought any clothes for over 7 years, other than shoes and socks, so I decided last month that this year I'll wear new clothes. So, I had three pairs of pants tailormade in Daegu, bought two jackets, a few sweatshirts and a pair of sweatpants. I will get two more pairs of pants tailor made soon, and in the spring a couple of more (khaki brown & khaki green). At that time I'll also have at least six shirts tailormade (no need to in winter since sweaters or sweatshirts are needed).

2. Get new glasses.

A pair broke and I am down to my backups. "Good enough" i usually think, but am committing myself to buying a couple of pairs, polychromatic as usual (they darken into sunglasses in bright sunlight).

I am not much of a shopper so for me these are resolutions. I love my old clothes, but they are getting tattered so, sigh, it's time to move on, and the new year is a good time to develop a new look.

I don't bother with money or exercise goals.

The new year does get me wondering whether to re-sign a one-year or two-year contract, or whether to move to a coastal town, some place I haven't been more than a half dozen times over the years, like Gangwon or North Jeolla province.

Diet? Well, I am consciously buying more fresh fruit, something i usually slack on in winter months. But that is more about nutrition.

Travel i constantly think about but am not resolved to do any specific thing in 2020, other than fly to Taiwan for a few days, not Taipei, but the beautiful east coast.

I have one teaching resolution: count to ten before chastising a student. I quickly and angrily scolded a student and she cried. I don't want that to happen again. More tact and strategy comes with taking a little time to reflect on a problem.

I find it hard to believe that someone goes seven years without buying any new clothes, unless your significant other has been buying clothes for you, but I believe you said before that you've been single for as long as you've been in Korea (around 20 years), so there might be a connection between being single and that not buying new clothes thing.

Good to see you're doing something about it. Clothes make the man not the jeep as they say.

Well, the last time i bought a new wardrobe  i had gotten 22 tailored dress shirts and 6 tailored suits (double pants puts it at 12 pairs of pants). The prices were great, as most of them I bought on a monthlong trip to Thailand.

My five pairs of shorts are actually over 10 years old and i had 3 winter jackets, but i wore them out, was down to a light jacket i had to wear a sweater under.

And with no dryer, just drycleaning and hang dry, the condition of the clothes were pretty good (except my fav sweatshirt and jacket).

Again, i don't like shopping for clothes. It's a hassle. So i gladly put it off. New Year's was a good time to resolve to change the wardrobe.

I want to enjoy life more.
Party more.
Enjoy the company of friends more.
I'd like to read 120 books. I average 70-80 and my best year was 112.
Basically just have more fun, less hassles and stresses which comes almost entirely from the wife. Having said that, my stresses are quite low but zero stress is the goal.
