January 1st

This will be the first time my school is having the camp during the week of Jan 1st so I just wanted to double check here first...that's a holiday for us isn't it?

I happened to mention it in passing to another teacher at the school and she thinks we will have to come in and do the camp as normal like any other day.

That is a holiday and you do not have to go in. I have camp over that week, and we are just taking that day off.
Use code CAM7141 get 5% off at iHerb.com

Well that didn't go down well with my CT.  She said I have to work, I refused.  Had an argument lol.

I offered loads of simple and reasonable solutions.

Ok she's actually just stormed off now

Classic scenario, really. Foreign slave challenges the hallowed status quo? Watch those toys fly from the cot. Oh, and she officially hates you now. Congrats

You could always say you'll work for overtime. Then suddenly you'll have the holiday no questions lol.

It's a red day on the calendar and is a contractual day off (because it is a red day.) So if they want you to work, you will need to be paid overtime.  Your coteacher should...look at a calendar.

Haha that was one of my first suggestions.

I suggested that she could just teach the camp that day without me and I think that was the straw that broke the camel's back

That's too much. Clearly she's never looked at your contract or a calendar for that matter lol

It's a red day. We don't work on red days, they are public holidays. There is no argument to be had here.

Although I would ask why this wasn't thought of sooner than 2 weeks before the start date...

Yeah the other English teacher in the office jumped in and told her we could just do that which is fine with me.  No idea if that's what we're doing because my CT hasn't come back yet after throwing her toys out of the pram and storming off.

I suppose I had assumed we weren't working until my earlier conversation with another teacher who raised her eyebrows over it.  I never thought to mention it before because I thought we obviously don't work on red days.

Oh yeah, one of her arguments against me was "but you have vacation days after the camp".  That's when my brain stopped working haha.

Is she aware that there is a day called New Year's Day and that it is quite distinct from Seolnal?
