Just talking about honourable mentions.

As for top five, my list would be different according to what guitarists I reckon have/had amazing talent and those who were in bands whose music I particularly like.

My bad...right on.

Some (or many) would say Dave Navarro....what do you think?

Oooohhhh...Jack White....he slipped my mind.  I definitely respect him as a guitarist/artist...making the most of working within the box.

Dave Matthews?

That said, this topic is so last century.

Rory Gallagher
Jimi Hendrix
Robert Johnson
Dimebag

Everyone else is so far behind these 4 that they're not worth mentioning.

Some of the suggestions on here are hilarious, keep it up!

"Re: name some guitarists in famous bands" is not the title of this thread!

So are you V.I., but I don't see anyone complaining.

Most top five greatest ever lists are going to include a few entries from the last century.

It'd be pretty hard to make a list of just five, honestly. I could come up with a few different lists, like "Five favorite shredders," "Five favorite metal rhythm guitarists," or "Five guitarists that are doing it for me these days," but just "Top 5 Guitarists?" That's a tall order.

Screw it, I'll give it a couple shots.

Disclaimer: These are "these days" lists. The answers probably would've been different a year ago, and will probably be different a year from now.

Top 5 guitarists who I'll listen to because they're virtuosos:

Buckethead
Syu (Galneryus)
Kiko Loureiro (Solo & with Angra, don't care about his Megadeth work)
Jeff Loomis (Solo, don't care for Nevermore or Arch Enemy)
Michael Romeo (Symphony X)

Top 5 guitarists whose work just really scratches an itch for me:

Wata (Boris)
Dino Cazares (Fear Factory, Brujeria, Divine Heresy)
Philip Lindh (Twilight Force)
Buddy Guy
Stephen O'Malley (with Sunn O))). I don't listen to Burning Witch, and I don't really like Khanate)

Ugh. So many more names I wanted to drop, haha. There are sooooo many great guitarists who impress and/or influence me, with with their technique or their songwriting. I obviously also dig the big classic names, especially the blues masters, but I figured I'd narrow things down to where my life and playing are at nowadays.

McKee is crazy good.

Also, I'm glad you didn't put Yngwie Malmsteen on here. My buddy bought his DVD when I was in uni, and we had to turn it off after 10 mins. Like, we get it. You're fast up and down the frets, but there's no soul to his playing.

Pffffffft. Yngwie is great. Sure, he's a one-trick pony, but he's really good at that one trick, haha. It helps if you're also in to cheesy power metal, because even without the weedlie-deedlies, his songs are bangers on their own.

...for the first handful of albums, anyway. Nowadays he's just a parody of himself. His tone's gone to sh!t, and he does his own vocals, which he really, REALLY shouldn't. He's had some fantastic vocalists in the past (Mark friggin' Boals, son!), which makes his own seem EXTRA meh.
