Do you sleep with your window open?
« on: October 28, 2019, 12:22:12 am »
Nice cool breeze this weather .. but spoiled by the sounds of hoking or shouting coming up off the street.
Catch my drift?

Nope, largely for the reasons you mentioned. My apartment is only on the second floor, so I reeeeally get to hear the parking lot noises.  In addition to the doors slamming, car alarms, loogie-hocking, and shout-versations, someone in my neighborhood has a freaking rooster. I'd like to be able to sleep with the windows open, but if I want to sleep past 5am, it's just not feasible.

Would love to, but its just not possible when living in the city here. Koreans don't seem to understand that people are trying to sleep a couple of floors up while they are screaming at each other, puking up their lungs, laughing like animals etc etc at 2am on a Sunday night. There is a complete lack of consideration for other people in this country.

There's a lot of construction going on in my neighborhood so even with two layers of double-glazed window, I usually hear the mucous discharging when the workers arrive, before the jackhammers  and angle grinders start.

Yes, unless the 미세먼지 is really bad.

No sounds of shouting, traffic, or people where I live.

Hold on, you have windows?

Luxury

One day, I'll get a window, if I'm lucky.

Nope. When it's hot enough to sleep with a window open, I usually sleep with my AC going, cause the nights are too hot without the AC (Fan + open window is still too hot).
In NZ, I would sleep with a window open in summer but, AC in housing isn't as common, so it's fan and open window or nothing haha.

No, too much noise. Worst was when I was living in a really nice neighborhood in Cheongju, my window overlooked a nice children's playground. Kids would be playing and running around screaming there until about 12am, then the drunks would show up and start laughing and yelling at each other all night.

Usually sleep with window open, esp. Spring, late Summer (I'm gone pretty much from the end of June to the last week of August,...), and Autumn (really nice now: cool and fresh; great for sleeping...).  If it gets a bit noisy, usually on Friday/Saturday late night - i will close it; been pretty lucky so far.

Never, the ghosts come out of the river at night and give you nightmares.  A closed window stops 'em cold! Pleasant dreams......

And for good measure as an added level of security, my wife has a hand mirror outside above our doorway. That way, when ghosts do come to our house they see themselves in the mirror and run away scared. Because, you know, even ghosts are afraid of ghosts.

In Okpo (on Geoje) I didn't 'cuz of the noise.

But since then my windows in other Gyeongsangnamdo towns and in Seogwipo (on Jeju), yes, EVERY night: windows open, except for typhoons and really bad air days in the spring.

In Toronto I had an apartment one year on Bathhurst St. (near St. Clair) and the.bloody 24 hour traffic noises were insane, even with the windows closed. I vowed thereafter to choose quiet neighborhoods away from busy roads.
