Foreign Country/Culture Articles?
« on: August 26, 2019, 08:52:35 am »
I'm going to teach an after-school class about travel and (mostly English-speaking) foreign countries. I'd like to include a short article about each country per class (they're 90 minutes each), hopefully something that can introduce an interesting culture point (a festival, a tradition, etc.).

Any suggestions on where to find such articles, leveled for middle school? I don't know which grades / English levels my students are yet, but the only stuff I've found is for high school, which will likely be too high.

I'd be willing to buy a textbook, if it has the right kind of materials.

Looking up the main tourist sites for the countries is the best idea I can think of. They give a general overview of the country and what tourists should do there. Hope this helps.

The Korean times has a learning English section on their webpage, where you can find short news articles with Korean translations...you might be able to find some articles about travel there?
My old middle school used to get a newspaper called Teen Times (http://www.teentimes.org/)...it's a subscription service and the site is all in Korean, but the newspaper itself is in English and it often has articles about travel and festivals in other countries. My kids were fairly low level and I thought teen times was too difficult for them, but there's also a junior times for lower levels (http://www.juniortimes.co.kr/)
