Sonic the hedgehog game where your students have to bet who will win the race and then if their team picked correctly then they get points and if not they get nothing lol. Enjoy. Game and ppt adapted from waygook or made by me. Thanks and enjoy.

Find the Stars game. It's not that pretty, I threw it together quickly but it's perfectly functional and that's what matters lol

I know different teachers play Find the Stars differently. How we play: one slide is one round. After each team takes a turn, go to the next slide (it doesn't matter if there are still options left). Each new round, a new team starts - this way, one team isn't stuck having the fewest options each round. (So round 1, team 1 starts. Round 2, team 2 starts.)

I like it.  But how do you play groups in the covid era.  I'm not allowed to have groups or whiteboards till covid is finished.  Kids have to be socially distanced.

The kids are in lines so that line is their group. Depending on which KT I'm with, the kids either kind of just discuss the answer with their team from their seats (a bit chaotic) or each student takes a turn choosing an answer (so round 1, first student in the line chooses, tells their team and then they say the answer in unison. Round 2, second student in line chooses, tells their team, etc). Not the best but we make it work.

I'm not finding anything in any of the occupations threads for a listening activity so I think I'm going to try this video and ask the kids how many professions they could hear/identify. Then go around the room and ask all the students what their dream job is and make a big list in English on the board depending on how much class time we have.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUup841pZrs

Adding this one too - super catchy little chant that should really drill that "what do you want to be" question into their minds, lol. Good opener/closing activity

Attached below is a worksheet for a super simple no/low-prep period 1 listening game. (2 worksheets per page to save paper.)

  • Ask the students to circle two jobs on their worksheet. Then explain the game AFTER they've chosen so there is no cheating (read on for instructions).
  • Begin by modeling an example with the target dialogue. My CT and I will model, "What do you want to be?" "I want to be a scientist."
  • Students listen and put a tally mark in the box below scientist on their paper.
  • Then we start going around the class round-robin. "What do you want to be?" Each student gives an answer of their choice. Other students have to listen to their classmates' answers and mark each one with a tally mark every time they hear it.
  • At the end of the game, check to see which job was called the most (most tally marks). The students that circled that job in the beginning are the winners.
