Bump

Thanks heaps mate, I'm using your site actually to bring a few absolute beginners to a level where they start to speak and write English outside my class. I started with a reading site eslfast and your site's Basic Verbs.

Any more tips on how you would go about using your site to help beginners to get going real fast? I got highly gifted kids so they pick up things fast but I've got 2 of them who are aged 10 and they skipped 3 years and are attending middle school now. One of them keeps banging his head repeatedly and the other just simply whimpers silently for the entire hour, so they need to do this somewhere alone outside class because their class is almost Advanced level.

Hey there sorry for the late response, I've been travelling.

So for Basic students here are a couple things I like to do other than the Basic Verbs

1. Travel Essentials - this is a list of vocab with pictures of things they might need when they travel. When I start I teach them three phrases,

I'd like - for when you pay for things like a soda or burger
Could you give me - for things you don't normally pay for like napkins or a fork
Where is - for location of things like bathrooms or drinking fountains

Next I flip through the pictures teaching them the vocab and asking for the correct phrase to be used with the word. So it kind of becomes a role play activity. Where you pretend to be the clerk/waiter asking "Hi, can I help you?" and the student must respond correctly.

2. Picture Description or Picture Dissection - this is a fun little game where you show them a cool picture and give them some of the vocab and they have to put the phrase together.

3. Grammar - Basic Questions or Wh Questions are both simple interactive grammar reviews that are good for basic levels.

I hope this helps you out and stops that student from banging his head so much (that's gotta give him a headache)

Great thx. Those questions are great.
He has remarkably started to talk in full sentences within a few weeks! I'm completely gobsmacked as to how but he understands and speaks English now, :azn:
