Korea #9 most expensive
« on: June 29, 2019, 06:00:50 pm »
Back in 2005 I started at 2.1 million with a fully furnished 2 bedroom apartment: computer w/printer-scanner-copier, TV with satellite, all the furniture and appliances were brand new, the mattress was still wrapped in its packaging etc. etc.

14 years later salaries are down. Most newbies live in 1 room with a bare minimum of amenities and Korea has gotten a ton more expensive.

What's the draw these days?

I believe it.  Food and booze are a serious ripoff here.

The survey covers these things:

Food: Groceries; dairy produce; meat and fish; fresh fruit and vegetables

Basic: Household goods, recreational goods; general services, leisure services

General: Clothing; electrical goods; motoring; meals out, alcohol and tobacco

Certain living costs such as accommodation rental, utilities charges (electricity, gas, water),
car purchases and school fees are not included in the survey. Such items can make a significant
difference to expenses but are usually compensated for separately in expatriate packages.

This comparison of cost of living was calculated on a base composed of various developed countries
and is used to reflect an international lifestyle. Other indices available from ECA reflect specific city-to-city
comparisons, and different levels of shopping efficiency.

I have a hard time believing KPOOP is THAT relevant....then again, I have no doubt recent graduates are THAT stupid...shit attracts flies, I guess.

KPOOP is the equivalent to ear-rape.

It seems like more evidence of the infantilization of today's young people. In the past girls played with barbie dolls until they were 13 but by the time they were 23 they were married with kids. Nowadays girls start the sexualization process at 10-11 but continue to be child-like for far longer.  Things like obsessing over teeny-bopper bands to the extent that you break up relationships with real people and go to live in another country will probably soon be normal or even 'liberating' for women up to their 30s in the future.

In the UK you can buy a 1L bottle of non premium shower gel for £1-2.

In Korea those things cost 8-15k won for similar types.

Fruits...£1 for a bag of apples. In Korea thatís a dream.

Everything in korea has gone up in price in the last decade, and yes a ton of things have surpassed what people in the EU pay for their groceries.

The only saving grace for korea at the moment is the cost and quality of its public transportation.

I'm guessing that as usual they hired some freelancer, sent him/her to stay a night at the overpriced Lotte Hotel in Seoul to sleep on a rock hard bed, buy overpriced 13,000W coffee on the expense account, then based on all this determined that South Korea is "so expensive."

God forbid young people like anything besides 30 year old Nirvana albums or rock music by people now in their 70s.

No offense, but this is not representative of my "the times" at all.

Of course I dig the tunes I grew up with. The 60's were the best single decade for a smorgasbord of music that has influenced everything that has come since. Even that diabetic coma inducing drivel put up here.

These guys are a new band that actually rocks. ie: not a bunch of automatons doing their best robot impression without an ounce of soul.
