Basically, for me, it's pretty much to stop the unhinged left. Heck, some of them make AOC look moderate. At least with AOC I get the sense that some of it is an act. The Dems have shown little willingness to stand up to the lunatic fringe of their party. The Republicans at least have gone with someone who is a relative social moderate in Trump and aren't as unhinged as they are portrayed. Of course in time, we'll have to check them as well, just like we checked them after Bush. Heck, even most of the retrogrades in the GOP right now would basically take us back to 1991. Not the greatest of times, but it's livable. The lunatic lefties? We're talking Brave New World. The grand plan is check the unhinged left, then when the right starts to go bezerk, turn around and check them with a moderate Democrat. Joe Biden would have been that, but he's clearly not capable of standing up to anyone or getting a grip on anything.

Bernie actually was sort of doing it, until he threw in with AOC and the lunatic left. I don't mind some of his more lefty policies on health care and such, but if he lets himself get trapped by the identity politics crowd? Oof.
which leftist policies do you disagree with?

"the unhinged left" while the right is forming militias and working to create their own country within the US. Look what the right has done in Kansas, Oklahoma and Alaska, while in Washington gop legislators  refuse to attend votes, stopping the elected majority from doing the job the people elected them to do.

The left isn't unhinged, except according to members of the Frightened White Men's Freedom Freedom Party.

Right. The Bushes were religious fanatics.

dishonest don campaigned on religion, claiming that Christmas was under attack and the like. They're cutting funds to Planed Parenthood and giving it to anti-abortion religious groups. Repug-controlled states are drastically cutting  SNAP and giving money to religious groups preaching family strength.

Wise up.

Why do you think Trump says those things? Notice any kind of pattern to them?

Why do you think Trump says those things? Notice any kind of pattern to them?

Because he is, amongst a multitude of things, deluded.  I'd worry more about people who see that pattern of nonsense and think that it seems normal and they'd still vote for him anyway.  That is not how normal people talk.  This Coronavirus outbreak is showing trump for what he really he is, if any more proof was ever needed.  He's making it all about him and how it affects him.  Just compare it to other countries and then come back and say that the US response is  in any way competent.  500 cases and 21 deaths (at this time), that 500 is very low because of a lack of testing.  Compare this to Korea, that is testing at least 10 000 people a day and facing up to the outbreak.  There are still trump supporters saying that the virus doesn't exist.

Quote
“He has handled it just fantastic,” said Tish Schultheiss, 68, of Greensboro, N.C. “Because he stopped it early, the flights coming in from countries that did have it. He has got a task force now that’s working on this. A vaccine will be made before long. I feel safe about that, too.”

As an interested outsider looking in, here's what I see as succinct as I can make it:

1) Republicans self-identify as conservative minded thinkers who are interested in helping America and if necessary to the detriment of all other countries or people who do not self-identify as Republicans

2) Democrats self-identify as liberal minded thinkers yet called anyone who disagrees with their thinking are racists and ~phobes

3) You'll never get either to change their way of thinking which is a sign, in my opinion, of closed-mindedness in the extreme

4) The fence sitters who will vote for the person/party they feel is the better party for the country at that time. This is  the most important group and these are the very people that Democrats should be courting. Instead they shower them with insults because they don't automatically agree with Democratic principals and arguments. In doing this they push these potential voters away. Remember Hillary and her basket of deplorables line. That single phrase did more for the Trump campaign than perhaps anything else.

There are so many videos on Youtube of people going nuts over seeing a person with a MAGA hat or something. It's not a stretch to think those people going nuts are not fans of Trump, the Republican party or their policies. Indeed, it's less of a stretch to think those people are Democrats.

Who are the real racists and ~phobes?

Seems to me they are predominantly Democrats. And that's the big irony isn't it.

Trump will win in November because he is the better choice over the representative of a group that can't get their heads out of their butts.

Sounds awfully snowflakey.

This is the thing with modern conservatives that I can't wrap my head around.

8am - "Political correctness and social justice warriors are a huge problem. These soyboys and snowflakes need to learn that the world won't coddle them forever. Time to toughen up and learn to take a few blows."

8:15 - "We won't stand for these cruel insults anymore! The elite have neglected to make us feel special for too long! Donald Trump and Brexit are our revenge for all the mean things you ever said!"

8:20 - "Ha ha! A man in a dress! HA HA HA! A man in a dress! Have you ever heard of something so crazy? A man! IN A DRESS!"

"Hey, wanna hear a racist joke? How about a bunch of highly selective statistics that started circulating on a neo-Nazi forum, designed to paint Minority Group X in the worst possible light?"

8:30 - "The left make too many false accusations of racism, transphobia, etc. It's all they've got because they can't formulate a rational argument. You know, like our rational arguments about why students should pray in public school and why the US healthcare system doesn't need reform."

8:45 - "Come on, it's just a joke."

8:50 - "Did you see that horrible lefty comedian saying those rude things about Brexit supporters on TV? Intolerable!"

9:00 - "Look at this person on TV debating Subject X! I disagree with them!"

9:01 - "Why are they shutting down debate? Why is the left always shutting down debate? Going on TV to discuss a controversial subject is the exact definition of censorship. Why do they hate free speech?"
