Boris Johnson to appear in court over Brexit lies
« on: May 30, 2019, 02:36:41 pm »

He will have to defend himself against a "misconduct in public office" charge.

He decided he would deceive the British public by stating: "We send the EU £350m a week"
Which was plastered on the side of a big red bus.  This was, of course, completely
false and shows his total disregard for honesty and fair elections.

If I had my way he would be in criminal court for criminal fraud and face jail
time.

He failed as Foreign Minister and would be laughable as a Prime Minister.

You should not underestimate him, when you look at his carefully planned 'unkempt' image together with his ruthless ambitions, there is a lot more to him than meets the average punter's eye. He used to be immensely popular at Eton and all his friends then and now, would still remember that. I hope he won't become PM and simultaneously hope he will, so he will finally fade away from the political stage, but at what costs?

For the uninformed: most of these upstart youngsters are now in government. Dull-eyed David Cameron, descendant of King William IV and Edward IV, is standing 2nd from the left. Boris himself, is related to king George II.

Gosh, looking at that picture makes me even more convinced I have to instill socialist ideology and a sincere empathy for migrants and the sick, needy and the homeless in my classes.

Politicians make statements all the time.  Some false and some true.  Some deliberate and some not deliberate.  I never heard of one going to court over something they said in an election campaign.  If voters are mad, they vote them out the next time.  Britain has gone down the crazy road with their restrictions on speech.  Let's pray it never comes to North America.  Though in Canada, Turdo is trying with his pals Macaroni and NZ PM Ardern.  Pack of idiots.

As someone said in the article, "It is not the role of criminal law to regulate political speech,"

It's probably based on some version of the truth - ie one of his advisors worked it out that if you add all this, don't bother to subtract this and take such and such into account it could come to 350 million etc...

It was such a blatant lie.

Even after getting fact checked they knuckled down and continue spreading it.

All politicians who lie like this on the campaign trail should face prosecution...whether or not it was intentional...regardless of what side of the political spectrum they’re on.

There’s no excuse for this kind of disingenuity (at worst) or incompetence (at best).

Haha, crazy Brits.  Imagine trying to make the leaders of the country accountable for
what they say.  The leaders of nations should ALWAYS be able to fabricate
anything they want in order to stay in power.  I thought we all understood this?

Boris should stick to his guest TV appearances on topical comedy shows.

Yes, politicians lie all the time.  You kick them out. of office in the next election, start an impeachment drive, etc.  I can stand in the town square and say the sky is pink.  If I lie, good for me.  It's my free speech right to do so.  The other side should have countered with their own numbers and had a better argument.  They didn't and now want to go after a scapegoat for losing.  Britian has a serious democracy and free speech problem.   It's going down a very dangerous path.  As for Boris Johnson, maybe he believed the numbers when he said them, maybe he out and right lied, or maybe he exaggerate them.  I have never heard of a politician's mouth becoming a court case before.  If a politician lies their ass off, they usually are kicked out hard the next time and the party not elected into power for a very very long time.  Opinions shouldn't be put on trial just because an opposing view doesn't like it.  It's very very dangerous to do so.   (Another post about Laura Southern reminds me of her being banned from Britain.  Also reminds me of Tommy Robinson being jailed for a time.)

Well, Alexander Boris de Pfeffel Johnson is currently the MP for Uxbridge and South Ruislip.  That is his representative role in government.  He went beyond that role and lied repeatedly (knowing what he said wasn't true) and should face the consequences of his lies. UKoGBaNI doesn't have a "first amendment" to protect him.

So, let him go to jail, the lying sack of siht he is.

As an American, I understand the first Amendment, but I also think that we need to hold our politicians to their promises.  It happens at the moment that the level of lying and the lack of compensatory action are at such a dissonance that the system is close to breaking.  When McConnell refused to hold advise and consent on Merrick Garland, the system broke.  No reasonable explanation can excuse his behavior.  It is wholly and entirely a REPUBLICAN break.

If we could do what the Brits are trying w Boris, Mitch would spend the rest of his pathetic life (and his wife who should have divested her transportation stocks 20 years ago) in penury if not in prison.

“I’m sorry your honour, yes I lied to that woman and convinced her to give me her life savings under false pretences.

It’s my right to free speech to lie as much as I possibly can into conning people, so it would be politically incorrect to punish me for it.”
