Accessing pornography for one's own use - legal or not?
« on: March 31, 2019, 10:38:02 pm »
This article from 2015 states that accessing porn is legal but hosting or facilitating it isn't. Is this still the case with the new laws earlier this year?

Also, I remember reading an article on Namu.wiki about something like "obscene materials" or "subversive materials" which had a passage in Korean stating that accessing porn is legal. Can anyone link me to this page?

The way I understand it is it needs to be controlled, so local distributors need to have age verification.
Foreign sites donít meet this requirement, so they are blocked.
Itís not strictly illegal, but could be used as evidence of lack of good character for immigration purposes.

You're right.

Accessing or being in the possession of pornographic materials is perfectly legal. Distributing porn, sharing porn or hosting mediums where others can access pornographic materials is what is illegal.

If you need porn, just go to any bus terminal in a city of less than 400 000 people.

They always have the cling wrapped nudie mags at the newspaper stand.
The first thing to say is that this is definitely not pyramid selling, OK?

Whatever happened to the tasteful glory days of swimsuit celebrity shoots and topless nudie mags? Pinup girl stuff.

Now everything is hardcore XXX extreme crap.

Can you elaborate on 'lack of good character'?

Itís just a catch-all phrase that can be used by an immigration agent when they use their discretion.

What are the implications of this? And how do they find out such info?

Like many laws in Korea, there isnít much effort put into enforcement, until there is.

Are you saying that immigration officials can look through people's internet search history?

Dude, everything you do online in Korea is subject to government surveillance.

You canít buy a ďburnerĒ SIM card without ID.

I would worry about it.

Tug away!
