Apparently he was friends with Sam Hammington, too.

58 year old, mormon, lawyer, smoking meth.
Someone was telling me that meth is becoming more common in clubs and also among the 45+ age group.  Of course "More common" is relative.

Meth has been around in Korea for a while now. The majority of it gets made in SE Asian countries and then smuggled in via boats, although there are "entrepreneurs" who'll get mules to smuggle the stuff in via planes or through the mail. There was a big bust over a meth drug ring a few years ago where a family of Koreans and Korean Americans were making the stuff in the States and then using the military to smuggle it all in -- they'd have young GIs receiving packages through the US postal service delivering onto bases here.

Every once in a while I'll hear about a meth lab getting discovered here in Korea. Incredibly high-risk and dangerous.

I don't doubt that the drug is becoming more common, but I think that has more to do with it being more talked about now. People are starting to acknowledge that Korea has an illicit drug trade that isn't limited to just marijuana, lol.

I can understand businesspeople and students on meth in Korea, but TV personalities? I figure that would be more of a 'party drug' scene or even downers. Maybe it's the only way he could keep from blimping up due to being force fed food at various functions.

Meh, better in the Korean clink than US, although in the US he'd probably just get 1 year probation, 15-30 NarcAnon meetings, Rehab Camp, 6 months of random, and a vacuum attached to his wallet. Heavy, but that's not bad compared to 2-4 in the Korean pokey.

Better off in the Korean clink than US. Although in the US he'd probably "just" get 1 year probation, 15-30 NarcAnon meetings, 6 months of random, Rehab Camp, and a court-ordered vacuum attached to his wallet. That sucks but it beats 2-4 years in the Korean pokey.

A researcher told me once meth is extremely commonplace in North Korea. They serve it to you when you visit someone.

This is exactly what I'm suspecting.

I can understand the demand for party drugs like cocaine and ecstacy or recreational drugs like weed in certain places in Korea. This guy having meth just makes no sense. It seems very odd that a 58yr old Mormon, with no history of drug use, would suddenly start doing meth.

Assuming he just started now. I like conspiracy theories though. Maybe it was aliens.

Meth makes a lot of sense for this dude. Energy for work, focus on tasks. I do agree the media is taking some leaps about this but end of the day it is entirely possible this guy has a drug addiction. Hope he gets some help because this guy does do alot of good, especially in the foreign community.

If this is true (or at least widely accepted to be), there's definitely going to be a movie of it like 10-15yrs from now.

The only stories I found in English referencing the supposed lover aspect were from allkpop and koreaboo, which aren't the most reliable sources.

Google showed one from joongangdaily, but when I clicked the link, it wouldn't show up.
