What US state would you move to, if you wanted to?
« on: March 04, 2019, 01:14:10 pm »

If you could pick any US state to live in where would you go?

Keeping in mind; crime rate, affordable housing, jobs, etc.

I've got Oregon, Minnesota and Colorado.

Upstate New York.

Ha! That's my hometown area.

Yeah definitely possible. Affordable housing for sure.

Man, I'd love to have a USA passport. I'd trade my Canadian passport for one in a heartbeat. I love the USA and I've been to 39 states, I think. Arizona baby! That's where I'd plunk 'er down. Up north near Sedona. Awesome weather.

Arizona for me, too. It's the only state I've been to that I've been absolutely in love with.

California. Born and raised there, lived in a few other states but none compare to my home-state imo.

east coast - new england area preferably vermont. shout out Mr. Deeds

midwest - st. louis gets slept on. baseball and bbq. you can get to either coast on a flight pretty easily.

south - a lot of people go nuts about austin but i've got a friend that lives and works in san antonio and can't stop talking about how much he loves everything about it.

west coast - washington/oregon/NORTHERN california. camping, fishing, and trees.

one of my brothers lives in vegas and loves it. he doesn't gamble or drink so he takes advantage of great restaurants, shows, and golf courses.

younger sister lives in boston. she loves going to red sox games and is always running around the city.
too many blueprints & not enough architects

Ok letís narrow it down a bit.

Housing- homes under 250k
Crime- below national average
Jobs- unemployment rate below national average
Schools- upper 50% in public education ratings
*Easy access to nature/public spaces

Doesnít have to be a city as that greatly impacts housing prices.

We were strongly thinking on Vermont but the job scene isnít great.
St Louis has high crime.
Boston expensive.
I would consider Wa/OR but I canít handle the gray rainy winters.

I keep coming back to MN for the points I listed above. Not sure about those winters though!!

Thanks for all the responses thus far.

I'd try and go for a college town, not too big, not too small. Preferably close to a big city. Also, has to have winter. Ann Arbor, MI and Madison, WI probably top the list for all of those or maybe Evanston, IL.

Perfectly fine options- Eugene, OR; Rochester, MN; Madison, WI; Columbia, MO. Some place like Fairfax or Arlington, VA might be alright. Upstate NY would be okay, but you could be a bit far from things.

I'd prefer to be in Eastern or Central time though.

1. Hawaii
2. California
3. Washington State

That's about it.

Enclaves of regions and cities elsewhere (eg., Portland, Virginia Beach, Santa Fe) , but not states per se.

Boulder, CO might be good for you, if not too small.

Upstate New York.
Might as well be in Montreal then.

Similar weather, same costs, more things to, better restaurants, sports, parks, culture, festivals, medical care, etc.

But then you'd have to support the unwarrantedly egotistical Canadiens, instead of the proud and humble Sabres.

Montreal is great. Bit expensive to live there though. Plus no visa or French.

"A new analysis, the Global Wellness Index published by investment firm LetterOne, ranks Canada as the best country out of the 151 nations evaluated. The U.S. trails far behind, coming in at 37."

Thanks anyway.  None of the above. I'll stay up north.
