More/Less
« on: February 19, 2019, 01:57:04 pm »
I'm having a senior moment...help!

Quote
I want to exercise more.
I want to eat pizza less.

The context is talking about resolutions for the new year.  The first seems fine to me but is that an acceptable use of "less"?  The more I look at it the more weird it feels  :lipsrsealed:

Looks fine to me. Maybe you're getting confused because you can also say 'I want to eat less pizza.' In your example it means less often.

I want to eat less pizza.

You can't use pizza less this way unless you imply you elided 'often'.

The determiner less is used after a verb or before a noun/adverb.

drink less

less beer

pizza less less often.
