You do have to teach them the importance of sharing and caring for others.
Seriously? .... yeah, 3 year olds are myopic.

But every 13 year old knows the value of peer approval.

We humans shove our offspring into public institutions at an early age when they should still be learning from momma and pappa. Us teachers complain about second graders not sitting in their seats. Lol.

How smart are we as a species?

I believe what the bible says. We live in a broken fallen world, and human beings are selfish sinful filth--myself included. That's what God says, so who am I to argue? Case closed.

In four sentences, you managed to seemingly pinpoint every problem with organized religion in our time. Bravo!

its all an imagined reality - tuesdays, god, corporations, good, evil, deities, caste, right, wrong, law, entity.

Above all else human beings want to survive. They are neither good nor bad, just altruistic when it helps them.

Political leaning: A mixture, depending on the topic.

lol - "altruistic when it helps them"

     Sure, why not?
There's no such thing as pure altruism. Everything that we do as an individual benefits us to some degree, no matter how altruistic it might seem. Charity promotes social cohesion and help build safety nets that will help either us directly later in life, or our relatives and offspring. Devoting ourselves to causes, be they environmental, political, etc. still brings those same benefits, albeit even less directly. Every helpful action we make benefits us, the question being only the degree in which it does so.

Although I agree with you that that quote was poorly worded.

I wonder if there's any correlation between economic status and this question.

Human beings are fundamentally sheep. It's the leaders they are following who are fundamentally good or bad.
