Cost of Getting CBC notarised in UK
« on: September 20, 2018, 05:00:53 pm »
So I'm coming and applying from Korea as can interview in person and otherwise recrutiers all want me to wait here until late Feb / March.

http://www.waygook.org/index.php?topic=114229.0

Anyhow last year I got quotes from the two only notary publics in town, indeed in a ten mile radius and it was about 75.

I was posting on here and many UK teachers said that was too high and said it was unnecessary to go through a notary public and that a normal solicitor or anyone else would do it for a 10 or so.

TBH the boards were very flamey and trolly back then so I was not sure....

CAN anyone from the UK who has had their CBC notarised in the UK NOT by a notary public and paid a lot less than 75 let me know...?

FYI this is the stage before I have to then send it off to the Korean consulate to get it apostilled.

Cheers

If you're talking about the Disclosure Scotland background check, then you can send it back to them and they will stamp and sign/notarize it for free. (https://www.mygov.scot/get-disclosure-verified/)

After they have notarized it you can send it to the UK government and get it apostilled for 30 pounds (https://www.gov.uk/get-document-legalised).

I did mine this way over 2 years ago and I think it took around 2/3 weeks.

But you said you're applying from Korea so I have no idea how long it'll take   :undecided:

This must have been a very very rare case in the UK legal system, but I walked into a solicitors and she did it there and then for me, for free!

It took her 15 seconds to do!

They bill in 6 minute intervals, so less than 3 minutes rounds down to nil.

I'm in the UK now but will fly to SK once all documents sorted and then apply :)  All docs are done from before when I lived in SK, just not CBC.

Went to a solicitor yesterday and they do not Notarise (only a notary public can do that) but would authenticate it for 30.

Another poster has suggested simply mailing it back to Disclosures Scotland.

These are the three options before the 30 apostille from the Korean Consulate.

I'll call the Korean Consulate in London today and see what they say.

Thanks all for your suggestions.

Well you were all right and have saved me 70!

You can just get a solicitor's to 'authenticate' your CRB for about 30 before sending to the FCO for apotilisation OR for the cost of 2 x 1st class stamps just send the basic disclosure back to Disclosures Scotland with a self addressed envelope and they will sign it and send it back to you for the amazing price of FREE.

Thanks all :)
