Top VPN's for China in 2018
« on: June 27, 2018, 12:17:46 am »
I worked in China from 2013-2015 (in Guangdong mostly) and I was just wondering what VPN's are most effective in 2018? I may come back to teach later this year at a university. When I was last in China Astrill worked okay however I don't know if it was the best VPN. During the big CCP party meeting the VPN wasn't very good at all (it lasted for around 5-7 days I think). I look forward to hearing which VPN's work best for you.

ExpressVPN is still the best one and the one I used while in China. I had no trouble even during the Party Congress in October.  StrongVPN has just been shut down according to my friends there now

I second this, ExpressVPN is your best bet, but I also usually keep Psiphon (free) on my devices too, in the off chance that I am getting frustrated with ExpressVPN.

Having your entire connection run through a VPN would be a red flag and perhaps lead to them shutting your connection down.

Consider that normal VPN connections are encrypted but have headers on them that tell you it's a VPN and China inspects those packets. If, instead, you have the VPN that does stuff to hide that it's a VPN packet (either running it through SSH or other more sophisticated stuff), they won't know the VPN packets are for a VPN. But if you have your entire connection always encrypted, they will correctly guess that it has to be because you're using a stealth VPN.

I'm in China, typing this at my school. Google is my homepage here, at home and on my phone. Express vpn allows you to put it on 3 devices. Have been here a year and a half and have had 0 problems. Go with this...
