Grade 4 Survey or Pair Game.

For this game students can either play in pairs as outlined in the FIRST instructions PPT or in a survey where they go around asking friends "What Time Is It?' and marking out their partners answers on their sheets.

Check PPT to be sure you have the right one!

Hello ~

Just thought I'd share a game I've made. It's a 4 corners speaking game. I've actually got two versions - ones where the students have to read times/clocks, and one using the "It's time for bed/school/breakfast/etc." vocab. I made it into a PPT with the rules set out and the corners already chosen. However, I've also played this without a PPT before. We have so many large dice laying around the room that I took one die and taped pieces of paper on each side representing whatever pictures I put up around the room, so feel free to cut out the extra slides that you don't want.

I also made "let's move!" slides for between the round featuring some of my students' favorite Kpop and English pop. They love to get up and move, so I think that they'll enjoy it. I've cropped the songs so that they don't play for very long. As soon as the song ends, the students will go to the next corner.

It's fairly simple, and I'm sure you've played 4 corners before so it shouldn't be too difficult to figure out. If you come up with any improvements or suggestions on how to make it better, let me know!

Edit:
It seems that I accidentally put animations on the transparent boxes behind some of the text/some of the pictures on the "It's time for..." file. I think I just copied and pasted from somewhere else that I had animations on. Sorry! You'll likely want to remove the animations if you've already downloaded. I've re-uploaded my version that I've just corrected.

What a great idea to use a dice! We have dice we can just slip the pictures into which makes it even easier (but I do have to tape down the openings a bit otherwise they fall out).

Students can even throw the dice (which they like doing) and it will be truly random.  Thank you.

Introductory PPT with vocab & key expressions. Be sure to check this post every now & again as I'll be editing it if/when I make more files for the later parts of the lesson.

All Periods Intro: Pretty self explanatory. Also includes the slides for Play Together 1 (Ideal for all periods)

Four Corners game: Slightly different from the other one posted here. Got this from last year's book & changed a couple of the slides around to make it relevant for this year, thanks to the original maker. Instructions included in the PPT. (Ideal for the 1st or 2nd period)

I did part 4 of the lesson (the two pages) separately. 1 page would be a review day and the other a project day. I would start with a mini review, work on the book, then work on the project.

Project (10-20 min.):

Using the book, students will complete the phrases for what it's time for (5 boxes for the 5 learned phrases. They will then write in the times that they do the different activities. After their work is checked, only then can they start drawing pictures.

Project Worksheet:
Half pages are used in order to save on printed paper. Therefore it must be printed out and cut in half for students to use.

Project notes
- Review the "key expressions" before starting the project (as certain students will have forgotten what they mean)
- Make sure they get their writing checked before they work on the picture or they will spend the whole time on the picture and not on the key phrases.
- Potentially go through the directions ppt 2x (and slowly) then ask them what they should and should not do. My students all listened to directions, but most of them were so obstinate that they literally could not comprehend how to complete the phrases on the document.
- Check the sentences to make sure they complete the word "time" and write in "for." Many of my students just added the main word in because they did not think through the task (which was very simple).
-My fastest student, who listened and understood the directions (due to them being in Korean), finished in about 8 minutes. Most students finished in under 15 minutes. Some students took about 25 minutes (as I did not allow them to leave my classroom until they finished due to them sitting there for 10-15 minutes and accomplishing nothing).

Battleship clone. Unoriginal, but fun.

1.  Get into groups of 5.
2.  Players draw 6 stars randomly on their board.
3.  Play “Rock, scissors, paper” to determine order of players.
4.  Group asks winner: “What time is it?”
5.  Winner answers: “It’s (time). It’s time for        .”
6.  Groups marks “X” on square of board.
7.  If they mark “X” on the star, they lose the star.
8.  Players rotate and take turns answering.
9.  Everyone answers 6 times.
10.  The player with most stars left is the winner.

Took the Template @HJY used in unit 4 and changed it to fit unit 6.  The students are to draw the time and write the time in Romanization on the worksheet.  My co-teacher wants them to do the Romanization so that they remember the spelling.
