My parents back in Canada have a big screen LG. And still have an old 1980's RCA CRT-TV in the basement, still working.

My parents and myself both owned Toshiba TVs as during the time they were a good, mid-ranged priced TV (back when 32" TVs sold for $600 CAD).

I worked retail for 17 years. In the past 4 years, before I quit, Samsung and LG were the by far most popular TVs we sold at Wal-Mart. Generally, people wanted to go for name brands. 58" 4K Samsung was the one TV we could not keep in stock.

RCA only rivaled Samsung/LG because of their affordable price range.

Even before I worked in Walmart, customers always aimed for Samsung or LG because they were known names and generally we not as pricey as Sony.

Here in Korea I have two that are Samsung and one LG. Price and reviews for two, and we won one. Don't know what my parents have back home. I think one Toshiba and three Sonys.

You donít need to buy Samsung or LG TVs here in Korea.

Plenty of vendors on gmarket and coupang sell generic brand TVs that use the same panels and bits as the big two (mostly excess stock that wasnít sold the previous year). And these TVs go for a fraction of the prices Samsung/LG ones sell for.

Example: 42inch 4K TV going for 288k won.

Something with a Samsung/LG logo at your local himart would cost you in excess of 1 million won.

My wife entered some kind of online thing, and the top prize was a 42" Samsung. A bit of luck, I guess. Meanwhile, I don't think I have ever actually won something by luck alone. She also won other top prize things more recently(in the last year), like a stroller, and some trip trip deal to Jeju, and other little things.

Some people enter a lot of contests.
These people also get a lot of junk mail.

Monex TVs and monitors are good quality at a good price. I'd never waste money on a Samsung or LG TV when I have the option of a decent off-brand. I've had less good experiences with some other off-brand screens.
