TV Shows for Learning English, Suggestions?
« on: December 01, 2017, 02:44:19 pm »
One of my students (middle school, second grade girl) asked for some suggestions for American dramas that will help her learn English. She seems to be at a high intermediate level, but suggestions for other levels in the class would be great, too. I've tried Googling things, but a lot of the choices seem somewhat inappropriate for that age.

Ideas?

Ugly Betty was one I saw that seemed okay, but I've never watched an episode. Anyone to confirm?

I'd say that 70s show for adults, but for middle no way, too much sex and drugs.

Every female Korean I personally know who is fluent in English has watched and enjoyed hours and hours of Friends.

They've all said that once their listening was up to snuff Friends seemed to hit the sweet spot between natural enough to be helpful while interesting and accessible enough to hold their attention.

Some scenes/episodes would obvs be inappropriate for middle school but I'm sure you could find some that are ok.
