FILLER LESSON: Surrealist Self Portraits
« on: July 19, 2017, 12:21:45 pm »
A simple lesson I did with my middle school students post-test period.

1. Posed the question: What is your dream?
2. Reivewed grammar structure: "I want (verb) (noun)."
3. Had students fill out worksheet based on five senses (I want TO SEE..., I want TO SMELL..., etc.)
4. Students drew self portrait using "dream items" (e.g. "I want to see a sunset."--students would draw a sunset for eyes instead of actual eyes.)
5. Concluded in a circle with students sharing their poem and portrait with class.

Of course you can take it in any direction you want. I have lower students, so this worked well for them. But the subjective nature of the activity allows for a range of levels with hopefully a lot of creative freedom.

Take what you can, leave what you can't!
