What movies are you excited about seeing this year?
« on: July 10, 2017, 08:48:28 am »
It seems like 2017 is going to be a great year for movies and I'm curious to see what movies you have enjoyed the most so far this year and what movies you are looking forward to. I'm chomping at the bit to see Dunkirk, War for the Planet of the Apes, Detroit, Blade Runner 2049, and the Last Jedi. So far my favorite movies of this year are Logan, Get Out, and OKJA. I liked OKJA far more than I thought I would. What do you guys think? I'm always looking for more films to watch.

thanks for reminding me to get an advance ticket for dunkirk in IMAX! i am looking forward to that one.

this is what i want to see this summer, either in the theatre or at home:
- baby driver
- spiderman
- war for the planet of the apes
- the big sick
- valerian and the city of a thousand planets
- kingsman: the golden circle

i saw cars 3 the other week too and really enjoyed it. it ignored the second movie entirely and really played on the emotions and nostalgia of the first film (which came out 11 years ago...!), and did so quite well.

I need to buy tickets ASAP for IMAX. I've been waiting about 2 years for Dunkirk. I also wish Planet of the Apes would come out sooner in Korea. I'm surprised we didn't get it early here like most big movies.

Where did you see Baby Driver? I've heard great things about it, but I didn't see it on the cineinkorea website. Also, what did you think about Planet of the Apes? I heard it is remarkable.

Same. First Cars movie was okay, but Cars 2 was terrible imo -- I like Mater and all, but he doesn't deserve to be the star of his own feature film. Cars 3 makes Cars 1 worth watching. It was a good call to ignore the second film.

IMAX is okay, but Yeongdeungpo Starium is the best screen in the country.

it's playing here in town; i'm not in korea any more.

the first two apes films were excellent. i am looking forward to this new one, especially considering how the second one ended.

Starium is amazing. I've seen a few movies there and it's always been a great experience.

I didn't realize how great of an actor Ryan Gosling is until I watched Drive. That movie floored me, and he was also great in La La Land. It will be interesting to see him in the detective role. Have you seen the trailer for Detroit? I'm a big fan of Kathryn Bigelow and John Boyega. The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty are both great films and she always does a fantastic job creating tension.

>:( It was as good as a 1980's Mark Harmon flick (heck, any Mark Harmon performance!).

It wa MILDLY entertaining. It was not funny, despite being pimped as a comedy. Cruise has done 49 films and these 3 or 4 are the only ones that are worse: Cocktail, Days of Thunder (debatable), Tropic Thunder, Rock of Ages.

I would have laughed at you all night long for that comment back in 1997, but today, in terms of mainstream fare, you have a point! (I still think a lot of great films are being released but they aren't the big-budget studio-pushed theater flicks.)
