Hey all, I'm currently, at the request of the students parents, using the book Chat Room for Teens 1 with a 13-year old sixth grader in a one-on-one class.
To be honest, though I do think the subject matter of the book is interesting and relevent for her age group, I'm not really fond of the book. It uses incredibly complex sentence structures (think three different verb tenses in one sentence) and lots of very advanced grammer (should/would.) I'm having moderate success using this book with her, and she seems to enjoy the lessons, but I'm having trouble thinking of ways to better break down the material so its more comprehensible for her level...
Any of you folks on here familiar with this series have any teaching tips for me? Or any general teaching tips on how to scale down something difficult for a lower level student?
