Ouch~! watch what you're saying man. Ragging on others may show them that you may not be the brightest bulb in the box either.

...why would you say this? what does it have to do with the question?

Also, perhaps you're associating with the wrong people if you feel like this. Many people I know here have interesting plans that include more travel, study, adventure...

@ be the ball. Try to say nice things here!!!! We are here to support each other and I think you are very wrong in your assessment of us here. Most people here are able to contribute meaningfully to English Education here in Korea even if it is through games and PPT's  !!!!!

rlong,

no offense intended, was posted in jest.

What I meant was that I had the idea that I would have a career (a proper one). The job is good but your skill set is limited I think and potential for advancement also limited. If anything, budget cuts mean that within 5 years most waygooks will be out of PS.

That's what I am getting at. I don't think waygooks are dumb but even intelligent waygooks are limited in their options if their home counties have serious economic problems.

I came here to test out teaching, see if I like the feel. Granted, the job I do here isn't the same as I would do back in my home country, but the similarity is close enough to see if I would like it or not. Seeing as how I teach whatever I want, solo, for 45 minutes, I probably got one of the better situations to determine if I can appreciate the profession or not.

A quick look at the EPIK payscale showed me that this wasn't a good career, but it's still a good stepping stone for people most likely. A place for transitioning. After 1-3 years here I plan on heading back, dropping 30k and a year of my life at school to pick up a MEd. Terrible economy and all, I'll give it a stab.

What do I miss from home?

The obvious things!
-Friends/family.
-Some of the social aspects (knowing what people are saying).
-Food: comfort foods (lasagna! baking in general), mexican (Al pastor burritos from one of the many taquerias in my area).

But in general, I don't miss much. I have adapted here and I stay busy, so there isn't much time for missing things. I suppose if I just went home by myself every night and sat there, as well as on the weekends, I'd be sad and miss more things.

There are actually quite a few good Mexican restaurants in Gangnam.

Things I miss back home:
-Sauna (not jimjubangs) no humidity, just heat
-Swimming Pools (they're a tad crowded everywhere I go, and feel like "wading" pools)
-Availability of 24 hour pharmacies

a bunch of really small things (cheap Thrifty Ice Cream, cheap In 'N Out burgers, bonfires, free nachos at Tex Mex diners), but all in all nothing too major that makes me want to go home for vacation.

Lower priced cheese, meats, and fruit.

and canned veggies.  Only corn, beans, and green beans here and all over priced.  Ah the US. 2 dollars per pound of beef, 33 cent cans of veggies at save alot.  My food budget sky rocketed here.

Good bread.....turkish bread, sour dough, Lebanese bread...!!

Also, Mediterranean food in general...Greek, Turkish, Lebanese, Israeli (ok branching out a bit geographically here).

Apart from food, nothing much. Life is great here mostly!!!!

Food:
grits
okra (particularly fried okra)
figs (I've actually had them here once though, from someone's garden)
barbeque pork sandwiches with good sauce (lots of vinegar, not the overly sweet kind)
fresh green beans (saw some at one of the marts the other day, but they were ridiculously overpriced)
cottage cheese
triscuits (must be here somewhere)
cream of wheat
oatmeal
The brand of Sriracha with the rooster on the bottle
Chinese buffets
Krystals/White Castle
Deli meat and cheese
Really good bread
hominy
hummus
affordable pesto

Also:
My car
having a bathroom sink
drying machines
dish-washing machines
ovens
Braves baseball on TV
