Title: Do you visit the weed store when you're back home?
Post by: SPQR on June 01, 2021, 12:46:14 pm
I have two friends who recently returned to North America. One a seventeen
year vet here in Korea the other a twenty-seven year vet. Both lost their
jobs mostly to the rural demographics.

The long timer used to buy weed and smoke on a regular basis. The shorter
termer never smoked. But wasn't averse to the idea.

I text them regularly. Mostly to get their weed store stories.  But, neither have
purchased any of the ganga. What gives? This was my dream when I was
Younger. WTF.

What were the rural area jobs they lost? Public school / uni / something else? Sad / surprising all that experience wasnít able to save them. Unable to get hired in more populous areas of Korea?

You seem to exemplify what can be termed "glandular thinking"- Your thought processes and priorities are driven by your glands.

Where should I live? Whatever place satusfies my lust
What should I do there? Dopamine drip of alcohol and partying.
What would I do back home? Dopamine drip of drugs.

Glandular thinking. One step above animal instinct.

I was on topic.

You asked "What gives?"
I offered an explanation.
You didn't understand it.
I explained it. I then explained why you might be confused, given that you are a glandular thinker.

Being the glandular thinker that you are, you weren't able to focus on the events of the past, comprehend a progression of events, and just lived in the moment so to you it seemed like things were off-topic. Possibly due to years of chemical abuse.

This thread is about two guys who have had to return home due to shifting demographics in rural Korea.  Please stop trying to steer the conversation to weed.  Let's stay on topic, please and thank you.

Now, have these two gents ever considered China?

As a teenager I remember these things. But as an adult I would probably
smoke in moderation.

If being wasted on a regular basis and not being able to hold down a job
is a consequence of this, is this what's happening in North America
these days?

Up in smoke!

More DRUG talk on the forums, I see. I'm sure this makes the educator community look REALLY professional to any Korean who sees this. and we wonder why wages are going down.

I hate the stuff. Seen too many good friends throw every opportunity away because of it.My sophomore roommate in college used to stink the dorm out with the stuff. Eventually I put a call in to the campus police, and let's just say he could kiss his scholarship goodbye....

Did you ask him to take it outside? If you did and he refused, fine. If you just narc'd him without any warning, that's lame af.

The proper balance is live and let live. Let people have good memories, but not be one of those dbags who thinks people who don't partake are lame or have something missing in their lives. Chemical enhancement, not dependence.

There were several weed cafes openly operating in my birthtown of Vancouver back in 2010 when I last was in Canada, but I didn't venture in because I was disgusted by the smell of marijuana all over the place (tobacco smoke was enforced more by local police with tickets in non-smoking places whereas pot smokers were told to "move on elsewhere"). And the sad homeless and drug-addicted crowd on downtown streets. It was a city of stark contrasts from one block to the next.

I can't imagine how much stinkier and zombied the streets of Vancouver are these days now that B.C. bud is legal.

Hastings in Vancouver has very little to do with marijuana. Heroin, meth and opioids
are the problem there. The police and city hall would love if it was only bud.

Really?  He hangs with the global elites and jet setting crowd while carbon taxing the poor and middle class into deeper poverty?  Daddy Trudeau ran Canada's economy into the ground.  He took a very low unemployment rate when he came in and left it very high for years due to his terrible economic policies.  Was the national unemployment rate 13 or 14 per cent or something like that when he left in 84?  It was around 2 or 3 per cent with plenty of jobs for everyone when he came in.  Like father, like son.  The dad at least did have some brains even if the wrong ideas.  The son has all the stoned ditziness of his mother.  Uh um er ah um er ah.....

I've seen people ruin their lives over pot before too.

1 guy - got so addicted he was looking for the next big high, that a teenager could afford. I convinced him to smoke so much random stuff looking for it, including things like sunflower petals, nutmeg, and other random plants.

another guy, went from the most friendly and relaxed guy ever, he used to go around with a guitar and play soothing jams for other students having a bad day, to getting hooked on meth in his 3rd year in high school (we do 5 years in NZ), and then robbing a convenience store with a weapon. He got so hooked on pot over the first 2 years of high school, that it took a lot of it for him to feel the effects, and then he got offered meth as the next big thing. Last I heard he got sent to juvie, and then transferred to a regular prison once he was 18.

Alcohol 'more damaging to brain health than marijuana'

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/320895

The researchers found that alcohol use ó particularly in adults who had been drinking for many years ó was associated with a reduction in gray matter volume, as well as a reduction in the integrity of white matter.

Marijuana use, however, appeared to have no impact on the structure of gray or white matter in either teenagers or adults.

Based on these findings, the researchers believe that drinking alcohol is likely to be much more harmful to brain health than using marijuana.

Cigarettes ainít healthy in moderation.
I don't know if there's a single non-invested soul left on Earth who would disagree with that. Heck, most smokers would probably agree with that as well.

As for booze, there was some research that showed a very small amount of wine every day could reduce the incidence of heart attacks or something like that, but if I recall correctly, it turns out that the effects could be replicated with unfermented grape juice, which probably made the booze lobbies funding the research pretty upset

Alcohol (consumption for recreation) is arguably the most destructive force in existence. A few benefits can be argued for, but the potential harm it causes greatly outweighs these.

While my view of alcohol, cigarettes and marijuana is quite steadfast and I'll be happy to strongly argue why I don't involve myself with any of these things, I see no point in preaching to others on what they should do.

There are many vices and bad habits and all of us indulge in at least one of them.

I drink about 18 units per week.  Which is slightly over what the NHS
in the UK considers safe (14). But if I lived in Spain I could drink 35 units
a week and be considered safe.

Seems like doctors in different countries live in different realities If
people listened to everything some random quack wrote in the internet
we would be eating nothing but green vegetables and drinking water.

I've done most drugs short of putting a needle in my arm and some of
the new ones out today.  If you're an adult, 19, you should be able to
choose. Portugal decriminalized ALL recreational drugs and apparently
that was the right move for them,

I dont think anyone here is arguing for prohibition. I think what people are questioning is the assumpption that alcohol or marijuana consumption are positives or that their use should be trivialized.

"Dude, how are you not smoking weed back in USA? Thats totally what I'd be doing. What's wrong with you???" is the attitude of a child.

Marijuana: less damaging than alcohol. And more health benefits than alcohol. What health benefits? Fat loss, whereas alcohol causes fat gain. Insulin regulation, lower blood sugar, lower blood pressure, may reduce the risk of some cancers...

Don't tell Koreans this. Marijuana = heroin, cocaine, meth... [in this country] I don't
even bother trying to explain the scene in North America to Koreans anymore. It
just doesn't sink in.

I thinks it's time for an experiment. I'm just about to wonder out back to my tool shed and take a few hits from the bong.
I'll get back to you in about an hour or so and you can tell me whether the quality of my posting has improved.

Might be an improvement. You might come back more humble, kind, understanding, open minded than your current rude, condescending, aggressive, insulting, know-it-all arrogant self.

I doubt you really have any weed though.

But if you ever do it could ĎJoe Roganí you.

Same with psychedelics.

Ironically about 2 generations ago it was common, cannibus, and enjoyed openly.

For the purposes of that experiment I must confess that it was somewhat corrupted by the consumption of alcohol.
To be precise, the actual dosage was a six pack of 375ml cans of standard strength beer, ie. 4.6% alcohol.
This was combined with approximately half of 1 gram of outdoor cannabis (THC content unknown).
I think the result of the experiment speak for themselves as exemplified by my two previous posts.

That was what your OP was about- Your bewilderment people back home weren't smoking.

Maybe you need to lay of the chemicals so you can figure out what is and isn't on topic. Wet brain might be setting in. Could explain your inability to concentrate and also to recall what the topic was.
