Title: TV series you are watching now
Post by: dippedinblush on May 24, 2021, 11:11:47 pm
I decided to make a thread of tv series that you are watching now because all that is available is the movies version.

For me right now:

My Brilliant Friend (Italian series based on a novel (2018-?):  Watched S1 and 2 within a month and it's fantastic (it's in Italian of course.. you will be mesmerised).   The scenery and feel of the series is amazing.

You (2018-?):  This series is very entertaining... watched all seasons up until now. It's just a series to watch that doesn't involve much input..

So which series are you watching?

The Man in the High Castle

Very interesting...but.. .the last few episodes were a let down. And, as usual, the bottom feeders of society were communists.

Gwad I haven't watched a tv dramatic series since I binge watched The Walking Dead (had to stop season 9 - got too too lame).

Reality TV? I rock every Survivor (need my fix!.c'mon!), The Amazing Race, Masterchef Australia (totally different than the negative vibing bitch-slapping backstabbing U.S. version, Big Brother (both U.S. & BBCAN).

The last American T.V. series I watched in real time was True Detective Season 3 (season 1 was most satisfying).

I tend to stick to the same old staples that I've watched for years and pick up the odd new show or two with a short run of episodes:

NCISs
FBIs
SEAL Team
Mare of Easttown

Short Series watched this year:
WandaVision
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier
Raised by Wolves
The Mandalorian
His Dark Materials
Departure

I watched the first episode of "The Girl From Nowhere" yesterday. It's a Thai drama about a girl who goes to different high schools and creates havoc by fixing bad goings on. It was very Thai, if you get that. Drama. Not bad though. It's overdubbed in English.

Yeah, watched some of it but it gets a bit far-fetched later on. Main actress is a babe though.

I don't watch much TV.  I mostly watch documentaries off YouTube or something else I guess.  The odd movie download.  (Though I may try Netflix someday.  Haven't yet.)

In episode 2 we learn she's a ghost. If you understand Thai people you'll understand why this show is a super duper wow amazing mega hit here :-)

I'm enjoying it simply for that fact.

I recently watched Sweet Tooth, season 1. I don't like where I see them going with it, but it's a good series. And it's short. That's important to me, I generally can't stay focused on a TV series if it has a ton of episodes per season.

Tried to watch Lucifer. Had to abandon that ship, I have no idea why people like it so much.

The Irregulars. Same thing as Lucifer.

I guess I lied a little, I can see a little of the initial appeal of both Lucifer and The Irregulars, but then they both piddle out into typical Buffy the Vampire Hunter type stuff, and... Buffy had its time, I feel like we should be moving on. But then I was also never a big fan of Supernatural, either, and that's still a thing, and the people who like it are still around, haha.

I am watching The Orville, mostly because of the actors, the show itself is kind of lame.  Too much of it is about a race of men that lay eggs and pee off hilltops at yearly intervals.  There’s also a robot that annoyingly keeps reminding everyone of their superiority, which essentially defeats the purpose of being superior in the first place.  Also, people on it  are drunk on the job way too often.

They also happen to have technology to regrow destroyed body-parts in the matter of hours, which makes you wonder why they’re not all 20-feet tall and super-human to avoid conflicts with evil aliens.  Lastly, the captain happens to be cuckholded by the co-captain, not very romantic.

I think it was on another thread (movies thread, I think) somebody mentioned watching "Mare of Easttown", so I decided to give it a go.  Wow, it's a great show.  Kate Winslet was terrific as the leading actress.  Would love some recommendations as to some thriller/crime shows in the same vein as this if anybody has any.

I loved it! Best thing I've watched for a long time. Shame about Quicksilver.

I'm thinking to start "True Detective". Each season (3) has a different cast and location.

Same with Lucifer. I've seen it up to the last half of season 5 (last season) but I mostly had it going as background noise while I done other things. (which is how I watch most TV shows :P )

"Star Trek: Discovery"
"The Expanse"

are back up and running.

Maybe not as unusual or profound, but I generally use series (typically ones I've watched) to play in the background while I'm cleaning my apartment or my aquarium. For that purpose, something easy to watch with the odd joke thrown in so:

Top Gear UK
South Park
Big Bang Theory (only season 1 and 2, the rest are awful)

My wife and I do enjoy 'Doc Martin'. Other than that, I do somewhat agree with our resident "too cool guy" in that I try to avoid watching series since it makes me incredibly unproductive.

Starting an Icelandic series called Katla.  Seems to be a supernatural mystery revolving an active volcano.  Episodes are a bit long, but it's good.  I'll keep watching.

Well, I usually stream or download things that I can't find or get on Netflix, Hulu, or HBO Max.

BUT, the first episode has been made available for free on youtube, at least for now. Not sure how long they'll have it up, so catch it while you can.

It's cool if you don't like Lucifer but you should watch season 5 episodes 9 & 10.  Show is ending and these two episodes are awesome (might be 10 and 11, can't remember the names).  One is a musical episode and the other is a remake of a great Michael Douglas / Sean Penn movie called, "The Game".  If you were a fan of that movie you should definitely watch it.

A Discovery of Witches... I read the books it is based on, the All souls Trilogy a few years ago.  the 1st season is now on Amazon.  Season 2 isn't on amazon yet .. basically about witches, demons, and vampires trying to co-exist in modern times and find out about the evolution of their species.

Watched the last episode of 'The North Water' last night. It's a bleak BBC mini series, about a whaling boat and its crew up in the frozen north.
I personally thought it was great, but at times grim and depressing and it could be a little slow (BBC historical drama) The characters were also raw and some pretty evil.
Well worth a watch.

Won me over with "raw and some pretty evil," but not gonna lie, "bleak" had me looking the series up.

I'm weird with stuff like this, I can either love it or hate it for the same, exact reasons, and there's no way of knowing until I watch it.

A number of new seasons and a few new shows have started this past week. Here's a few that I'm watching or about to watch.

'Yellowstone season 3'. One of my favorites. Kevein Costner and Kelly Reilly are great. Always bloody and full of drama.
'Wu Tang: An American Saga season 2'. I enjoyed season 1, surprisingly. Ashton Sanders plays a good part.
'Silent Witness season 24'. Episode 4 is up. I'll binge watch this. Never disappointed with this show.
"Only Murders in the Building', starring Steve Martin, is a new whodunnit comedy. Again, I haven't looked at it yet. Another binge watch.

'Kin' is a new Irish gangster series. Episode 1 was okay, but I'm not sold just yet.
Same goes for American Rust', starring Jeff Daniels. A little slow, and maybe  too much mellodrama to come.

I watched episode 1 of 'Australian gangster' last night. Turned it off after 30 minutes. Terrible, but that's me. Generally, I like Aussie TV and movies.
Which reminds me, 'Polynesian Panthers' is also a new New Zealand show. It's based on events back in the 70s during the Robert Muldoon Era Government, and the institutional racism and policies aimed at Polynesian people. It's not bad, but very 'Kiwi'.

Also watching new seasons of:

# Animal Kingdom
# American Horror

Wow! I didn't know they'd made a TV series out of Animal Kingdom. I must've been living under a rock.
Having said that I've just looked at the trailers and first impressions are pretty ordinary compared to the original Movie which was a classic.
I thought the original really captured the character of alienated and dysfunctional Australian males to a tee. Jacky Weaver was awesome as a Ma Baker type of matriarchal crime boss.

Good point OnNut.
Not 10 minutes ago I was thinking the same. People do need to know where you got the shows from. That, I didn't, and haven't mentioned before.
Yeah, the shows that I talked about above are all downloaded. Although some previous seasons may be on Netflix.

I haven't watched the Aussie movie this series was based on. I'll put it on my list.
I do really like the TV series though. Have a watch Adel, you might enjoy it.

Likewise I'd recommend you check out the movie.

I watched a 2 season series from Canada called Blown Away. It's a reality competition a la Hell's Kitchen (but polite cuz they're Canadians eh) about blowing glass.

It really is incredible. I have two hand blown glass clowns my mother had made when we moved to West Germany in 1967. I remember watching them being made. It is astonishing that they have made their around the world without the slightest chip. I had the dragon made from a guy in Nong Khai who had his little glass blowing table set up at an outdoor market.

For anyone familiar with Quebec City there was a very cool glass blowing place you could go in and watch in the old city halfway down the concrete stairs. You'll understand if you've been there.

Blown Away is very well worth the watch if you appreciate true mastery of blown glass.

It's on Netflix.

Survivor Australia, this summer's season 8, binge watching this week. It's better than the American version in several ways, though less angry confrontations, which can be a good thing, as there's more subterfuge, flipping and blindsides.

Hey has anyone seen Squid Games (Korean Drama/Thriller/Horror series)?  It's pretty popular right now on Netflix.

I binge-watched it in one week and I thought (for the most part) it was quite good, although the people they choose to act as the "foreigners" (not the Hindi guy) were so cringe~~~ GRRR.  Although to be fair, the script they were working with sucked (the English part).

Would love to know what others thought of the series.

the people they choose to act as the "foreigners" (not the Hindi guy) were so cringe~~~ GRRR.  Although to be fair, the script they were working with sucked (the English part).
FROM REDDIT:  https://www.reddit.com/r/korea/comments/pvv1z1/netflix_faces_major_backlash_for_their_response/heg42qu/
Some reasons why foreign actors in Korean media often suck:

1) Most foreign actors in Korean media are not trained professionals. Usually, they’re part-time models who came as teachers or students and married locally or got recruited by agencies. It’s a decent gig if you can get it - nothing against them. But yeah they are generally going to have almost zero acting training compared to Korean actors who usually go to school for this from a young age (often middle school or younger).

2) Scenes shot with foreign actors are typically shot in one or two days to minimize costs (costumes, makeup, feedback from directors, etc are a lot more chaotic when there are people who don’t speak Korean fluently - which is most foreign actors - on set so often there will be someone translating) So the actors have fewer chances to fix a scene if they did it oddly the first time.

3) The crew, director, and editors often do not speak English well enough to realize when an actor is reading a line in a weird way, or will even specifically ask them to read it in a way that does not sound natural to speakers of that language. Their lines are also typically written in Korean first and then translated, usually by someone who is not fluent in either Korean or the other language, leading to stilted or awkward writing.

4) Casting calls involving foreigners are literally advertised weeks or even days or hours before shoots in Korea (go to Craigslist Seoul if you don’t believe me lol) and the actors are often told very little about the project they are working on making it pretty difficult to prepare.

5) Foreign actors are not paid very much (100 to 400 a day on days when you get a gig which is like 10 to 15 days a month if you are lucky). Also, the people making the videos usually can’t give you any useful feedback because of language barriers and/or because giving feedback to foreign actors that you usually work with one or two times per project is not a high priority. Agencies for models and actors are usually just providing a visa and do not provide classes, feedback, or even references to jobs, but they do take a commission of 15 to even 40 percent per job, whether they helped you find it or not. It's really difficult to improve and develop as an actor in this kind of environment.

Bitching about foeign acting? That's fine. But some people are saying it "ruins" the show! hahahah

Don't you hate it when an off-kilter 1% ruins the other 99% of quality TV?

Anyway, the show is VERY good. It's not amazing, but it's well worth a watch.

Yeah, I thought the series was okay. I get the hype over it, but I'm gonna have to be that guy and say that it was a complete mess. So much of it was clearly copied from other sources, there were zero attempts to fill in at least some of the holes, a lot of the content was thrown in just to fill in space, and so much of the plot was contradictory and inexplicable. Overall, it was incredibly predictable. Even the "subtle" foreshadowing was too obvious and heavy-handed.

The VIPs were the most glaring example of all of the above. They were written so poorly, and they were filmed so poorly. They just didn't fit in with the rest of the series at all, not in tone, dialogue, or cinematography. They stood out too much in every possible way, and they were very clearly meant to be a xenophobic message that was ham-fisted as far up everyone's asses as they could get. The actors are getting the blame for all of that, but it's really a production and writer issue. Even A-List actors look like shitty actors if they aren't filmed properly.

Every character was a caricature of a stereotype or trope, Korean or otherwise. The crazy woman was loud and did the whole wide-eyed thing, the corrupt broker was comically sleazy, the main loser character is just some poor misunderstood guy, the foreign migrant was kind and strong but naive/stupid, and etc.

I actually hate the positive reviews that this series has received so far. I really don't think it deserves it. Sure, the sets were fantastic, and the Korean actors played their parts well, but that's as far as it goes for me. The over-arching societal message that the series is supposed to have does NOT make up for what the whole of it lacks, imo.

YES Chinguetti!  You hit the nail on the head!  The tone of the filming of the VIP scenes was so off... it was like those scenes were part of a different series altogether.  It seemed "cheap" in comparison with the other cinematography.  And their lines were so ridiculous (not to mention the costumes they wore).  And the scene with the protagonist and the portly older man in the bathroom was so over the top and predictably out of place (if that makes sense...because I knew it was coming  the moment when he asked the protagonist to go somewhere for a drink), it was embarrassing~

Haha, CINEMATOGRAPHY was what I meant, not filmography, what was I thinking, lol?

I think I'm gonna edit my shame out of there BUT ANYWAY yeah, the VIPs looked like they came out of nowhere. Even the LIGHTING in their scenes, wtf. And the bathroom scene, haha. GoLlY gEe, KoReA rEaLlY sTuCk It tO aLl Of ThOsE eViL fOrEiGnErS *cough*FATAMERICANS*cough* tRyInG tO cORrUPt pUrE KoReA SPARKLING

They did the VIPs dirty, and the series is less for it. The fact that the only non-western VIP was Chinese made me laugh, though.

But I'm sure the creators are still very happy with themselves because everyone keeps blaming the actors for the piss poor handling of the VIP characters and giving the rest of the series a pass, despite it all.  :undecided:

Ever see Mr. Sunshine on Netflix?  I watched because of my GF and it wasn't bad, but the foreign actors were horrible.  Often to a humorous degree, and one of them even had a regular recurring role.  I was approached by an agency owner as I sat outside a local mart catching some rays while outside the laundromat.  He said I had the look and gave me his card for his agency in Gangnam.  As I have no acting experience I never followed up, but after watching the calibre of performances on Mr. Sunshine perhaps I should have.

That was another reason I didn't send him my specs as he requested.  I didn't want to be in breach of my contract all so that I could appear in a advertisement for some fancy pants brand like Parkland Suits at my local bus shelter.  It was the laundromat where I ran into you washing those bed sheets with the oddly shaped yellow stains if you want to go hang out there on a Saturday with your resume.  His agency is in Gangnam but he lives around there.

The only foreign actor I saw who was any good was some old guy who was in some spy thriller playing like a low-key agent (the tailor type). Only one who didn't look out of place and actually pulled off the role well to the point where if it was a Western movie he would have fit in seamlessly.

Great new TV mini series called 'Dopesick' starring Michael Keaton.

It's a dramatization of the Oxycontin/opioid epidemic, starting with company who made then lied about it, the sales reps who persuaded doctors to prescribe it, and the targetted communities.

I downloaded episodes 1 and 2 yesterday. Excellent viewing!

Also, a new season of 'The Sinner' has started. Not a bad series about a police detective. Again, slowish but worth watching.

Dopesick looks promising!!!!!!
Thanks for reminding me about The Sinner!  Seasons 1 and 2 (especially season 1.....OMG) were great and season 3 was meh!   I'm hoping season 4 will be good, fingers crossed.

A new historical drama, with a bit of murder and mystery started last week (downloaded 1 and 2). It's an Australian mini series set in Ballarat in1857. It's mainly about the tensions between the Chinese miners, the Europeans, and the locals. It's only 4 episodes long. Really good viewing.

Also 'The Blacklist' season 9 has started. Episode 1 downloaded today.
I got tired of the Blacklist after season 3 or 4. I like foreign TV series but few Australian ones can keep my interest.  Part of it is the accent. They sound like Americans with phony British accents. Maybe that's why Australian actors do so well in Hollywood.

Yeah, I think the fandom online hyped it up a lot.

Yeah, I think the fandom online hyped it up a lot.

i mean it sort of deserved it at the beginning. roosterteeth was still pretty indie back then, it was a monty project and his animations were pretty popular at the time, etc.

its just sort of weird to see the show not get much better while roosterteeth has grown into a full-fledged company. feels like theyre milking everything they can get out of rwby and investing it in other shows, which is fair, i guess, and they do actually have some decent things to offer. shame their website and mobile app both suck.

nowadays the main reason to avoid the fandom is because its toxic lol

I think it was really well done.  It's about a soldier that has been recruited to capture soldiers that have run away from the mandatory military service.

I am currently watching the K-Drama "Signal" and I'm thinking it will be a good one as well (only on episode 2).

I always watch Survivor. That and The Amazing Race are my guilty pleasure TV shows.  They have gone way overboard with the advantages this season. And that hourglass may have made for a good reaction, but it’s against the whole point of the game.  It was completely arbitrary and punished a team for kicking ass in a challenge.

'Dexter' is back after 8 years. Downloaded season 9 episode 1, this afternoon. I got a bit tired of it and didn't watch the final season or so. However, I'll give it another crack.

Yeah it got very repetitive. Every season some new  nemesis appeared, he almost got caught but in the end he didn't. I watched all the seasons before but towards the end it was more like out of habit rather than real interest.
It's still nice to see his character after a nearly decade-long pause. The Miami vibe was a core element of the show before, but I like the new environment. It has a bit of a Fargo feeling.

Don't worry, Kurt, I'm not a fat, cantankerous old fart, yet, but I enjoy watching and posting about movies/tv shows. I got your back.

As for Dexter, I had to give up on that show. I like the idea of it, the premise is interesting, and it started off very promising, but it got wrapped up in too much drama. I'm all for character development, but I wanted to see more serial killer stuff and less existential falangering. Had too much of one and not enough of the other, imo, but that's me. I tend to get overly critical of shows that go on for too long anyway.

Gotta hit me hard and fast and be on your way or I'm gonna get bored.

I am recently finding Survivor South Africa as compelling as Survivor.

Though neither as good as Survivor Australia (three of that series are epic).

A MESSAGE:

If you have loved Survivor then give Survivor Australia or Survivor South Africa a chance. I could recommend specific seasons via PM.

I love watching the Beverly Hillbillies when I'm in a nostalgic mood... in fact many shows from the 60s, like;  'I Dream of Jeannie', 'The High Chaparel', 'Get Smart', and 'The Andy Griffiths Show'...there are so many good ones. Nothing like childhood memories.

This is another one I've thought about, but have yet to watch. I'll keep it for a rainy day.

There are over 300 episodes, so save it for a rainy month ...

;D ;D  Wow, I thought there were only 6 seasons. I'm way off in my binge watching calculations. Maybe retirement then.

The last two seasons had 100 shows each.  I think it must be quite popular.  There is a variety of quirky, interesting, sometimes ingenious games.  Many of the guests are smart or at least amusing, and I love the way Osman bad-mouths the show's own prizes.

Speaking of nostalgia....I have watched these shows continuously as they are TIMELESS and unbeatable.  I recommend The Twilight Zone and I Love Lucy....the humour is still there with Lucy and The Twilight Zone (original series) is spooky and cerebral, scary and classic.

I can't recommend these series enough.  My favourite shows of all time.  You can dl them on torrent sites but it'll take about 50 gb or more for Lucy and little less for the Twilight Zone I think.  You will never erase them.

Has anyone seen the Korean remake of "Criminal Justice" aka "The Night of"?   The Korean remake is called "One Ordinary Day"...and I am about half way done (it's only 8 episodes).  I'm wondering what you think of it...??

Netflix shows I would recommend include:  "You" and "Love"...."Euphoria", and "The Deuce"  (the latter two are very dark)

My Korean bud and i usually watch a movie friday nights on the projector in his office or his home big screen (his wife takes the kid to the inlaws for weekends), but we've adopted a chatty kathy hagwon teacher (teaches korean, the side dish of hagwons he says, citing english and math as parent preferenced), so....

Keifer Sutherland's 24 season 1 we are a few episodes into. Had never seen it before. Dislike political themes (Star Trek DS9 was the worst) but it has been bearable to HALF watch over chicken and beer and engaging conversations.

For those who know... which seasons of 24 are better than others?

"Reacher" on Amazon Prime.

Refers to the Jack Reacher character by the author Lee Child. Read the first couple in the series. There was a movie starring Tom Cruise but Reacher is supposed to be 6'5" and it disappointed Reacher fans.

I loved this new series. True to the character, fast moving story and great supporting cast. Hope there's a Season 2.

Watched Reacher. Saw the Cruise movies, never tempted to read any of the books. Thought it was OK with some nice twists, but fairly formulaic. I think the actors playing the two boys in the flashbacks were the best actors involved.

Squid Games

Finally, got around to watching to see if it lived up to the hype.

There were some solid episodes but the last few just felt devoid of any story continuation and I just wanted to see who won.

In pure typical Korean drama fashion there was a lot of faffing around with side-plots which eventually led nowhere and only slowed down the pace of the plot.

The last episode was awful and felt they ran out of ideas on how to end it properly.

Yeah, the books are great, and the TV series is also pretty good. The main character, is more like the book 'Reacher' character, than Tom Cruise was in the Reacher movies.

I read one Reacher book, and Tom Cruise seemed a pretty big stretch to me (so to speak ...)

But I have to say, I couldn't bother reading another one.  As written, he is totally unbelievable.  And the fact that he's virtually invincible means I can't build any kind of attachment to him, there's never any jeopardy, so it's just the good guy viciously destroying the bad guys.

But that's just me.

second one is more of the same, reacher as he's written is just a big bundle of wish fulfillment (the second one admittedly puts a bit more effort into giving him a bit of weakness, but its an indy and snakes sorta thing). theyre still fun just to see how the author writes him getting out of stuff, but i decided not to read the rest of them because i didnt want to spend all my time reading fluff, lol.

Which is an interesting alternative history/biography about the Manhattan project. Worth a gander!
I've learned a lot of things about the WW2 era scientific community from the book so far, among which is that, despite him being the protagonist of the story, I probably would have really disliked Oppenheimer if I had ever met him.

The man was brilliant, but he made a lot of life-choices that seem very inconsiderate or even down right selfish.
He had a lot of vices, and sacrificed several friends (to the political witch hunts of the day) to expedite his rise in academia, and the administrative control over the Manhattan project.
He was a bit of a glad-handler, and if it weren't for his genuinely astounding intellect, I think that he would probably have made a decent politician -- and that's not a compliment.

In any case, this is all gleaned from wiki pages, and a fictional account of his life, so I imagine that my idea of the man might be completely wrong. But as things stand,  I feel that I would enjoy reading about him more than I would actually meeting him. :undecided:

Daredevil season 2.

I had watched season 1 a couple of years ago but stopped when in early in the 2nd season I hadn't seen the Kingpin any more and I couldn't appreciate The Punisher (as i had not long before binge watched The Walking Dead and couldn't get his character from that series out of my head.

But a few months ago Marvel announced a return of Daredevil and happily, the same great actor in the role of Daredevil. So, I am watching season 2, then will see season 3 and anticipate a new season 4 as well as his presence in Spiderman movies.

I grew up a huge Spidey comic fan (had quite the collection i sold as a teenager for $300 - shouldn't have - the LSD junkie on the roof issue alone was worth a lot, but i had a girlfriend and financial needs - oh well), ... with Daredevil a distant but clear 2nd fav.

I watched episode 1 last night. More than good and the plot is strong enough to keep me going. I enjoyed the start where going back to how it all began, was intriguing. Also the setting. I've never watched a TV series based in Tokyo, let alone one based on actual memoirs. Some of the characters were fun, and the corporate stress was so real. The Yakuza fellas were also really scary gangsters. Jake's story should get interesting as it progresses.

As an aside, I couldn't help but see a few similarities between korean and Japanese business culture and general lifestyles, especially from back in the late 90s/early 2000s. Maybe still a little today.

Episodes 2-5 over the next few days.

its crazy to think its based on a true story. i thought the yakuza would be muchmuchmuch more guarded about outsiders. im curious to see where Jake ends up.  episodes 6 and 7 out tomorrow.

Thanks for the recommend. Just watched the first episode and loved it.

Ansel Elgort - loved him in "Baby Driver".
Ken Watanabe - always a strong screen presence
Rinko Kikuchi - loved her in "Pacific Rim"

I saw in the credits that Michael Mann directed the first episode and it did feel have a little more hardcore Miami "Tokyo" Vice about it.

Picard Season 1 or 2? I really enjoyed the nostalgia of Season 1 with feelgood memories of TNG and Voyager.

Have never gotten into any other Star Trek series since Voyager. Though, I have enjoyed the movie franchise reboot.

Agreed. I loved the original series and TNG, the original movies (slow but good) and the flashier reboot. And Voyager. But the others I spent a few minutes and then left. Of course, I haven't given the Picard series a chance. Is it any good? Compare it to the Star Trek uni.

I wasn't sure if to post this here or in the 'Happy' thread.
Harry Bosh is back, but this time, as in the book series, now retired and working as a P.I. It's called 'Bosh: Legacy' and is up on all good sites. Looks like I'll be doing a binge watch this weekend.

* I binge watched the last part of Ozark, last night. Terrific! Sad that the series is finished. There was enough material for it to go for a few more seasons.

Update:
Watched Bosh Legacy episodes 1-4 last night. Just as fans would suspect, nothing short of perfect. It just flows on from the last series...although Titus Welliver looks like he's a couple of Kg heavier  ;D

I also love the visual aspect of 'Bosh'...looking down on the LA lights from the hills, the blueness of the sky, the sky at dusk...makes me want to go there.

The remaining 6 episodes will be aired in pairs over the next 3 Fridays.

Good to know.  I have read most of the Bosch books and really enjoyed the series.  I'll look to see if it's on Amazon.  I'm slowly starting to watch the last season of Ozark.  I takes me about three attempts to watch a full episode because, like the first three seasons, it lulls so often between action.  I don't care about Jonah or Jonas brooding and being rebellious.  Just get the story moving.

2nd episode was solid.

A lot of people on the right are flipping out over it being 'woke' and I just don't see it. The Jan. 6 picture was a shoehorn, yes but the message about it was one of unity after division. If anything when I watched it, I thought people would be upset that Star Trek was 'both sidesing' the event.

Others whined that they were forcing diversity into it but like 2/3rds of the cast are characters from TOS.

To the anti-woke out there: It's fine. Give it a chance. Don't be like those who see racism everywhere and just see woke everywhere.

The Kids in the Hall released a season just recently. After being cancelled 28 years ago.  Its more of the same and theyve definitely kept up with the changing aspect of comedy. It reminds me a bit of "You need to leave, Tim Robinson".  5 60-year-old candian fellas having a bit of fun. Still very gay.  7/10

I’ve enjoyed Strange New Worlds so far. Good cast with room for character development.

But Riker is the only “Number One”.

Where can you watch Strange New Worlds?
How can I put this...on legitimate paid platforms or through means of disputed legality?

Don't watch Discovery on a full stomach. This show may also cause
irritability, bowel problems, confusion, constipation, dry mouth,
blurry vision, and problems urinating.

Those were your only symptoms? I had a full-on cardiac episode.

The intro to "Meanwhile" is always a linguistically complex, mentally-pleasing visual and verbal extravaganza.

I skip most of Stephen Colbert these days but have "Meanwhile" youtubed. It is an Emmy-winning segment. He should publish a book of his intros to that segment: I'd glady pay 30,000 won for a few hundreds of them at the beach (away from the phone - the new standard for book purchases).

... Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and I didn't think his accent was right for the part...I don't know, it just didn't work for me....
Let me guess: You like Hawaii 5-0 but the lead actor is off-putting, isn't Tom Selleck enough.

Why on earth would anyone expect the lead of Hawaii 5-0 to be like the guy who was in Magnum, PI?

Still lol! I think you meant Jack Lord, as in Steve McGarrett of the classic line "Book em, Danno". You need to add more frog DNA to your diet, or at least a large juicy steak.
Hmm, I should have thought crow was the order of the day.

I binge watched the 'Lincoln Lawyer' Netflix TV show the other night (actually over 2 nights). Not bad, but as expected a bit light in places. I was kind of hoping for a 'Bosch' style, but not to be! The acting was good though, with some good actors like Ntare Guma Mbaho Mwine (from 'The Chi'), however the lead role of Mickey Haller was played by Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and I didn't think his accent was right for the part...I don't know, it just didn't work for me. Give it a watch, it's good but I doubt that you'll come away stunned. 6.5/10 for me.

I tried that the other day, but had the same issues.  I've read all The Lincoln Lawyer books, and that guy was not Mickey Haller.  If you've read the Bosch books you'll know that Bosch and Haller are paternal half brothers.  So, the productions can't be related as a recent episode of Bosch: Legacy had a flashback to Bosch meeting his dad and seeing a very white young Mickey Haller in front of the house.  So, the new series has him as a dark haired Latino.  That would be the woke thing, I guess.  I still tried it but it didn't seem as gritty as the books or the Bosch series.

I mixed up two Hawaii based series from 40 and 50 years ago. Shocking. I haven't seen either in a long time. (Neither of them I came across ever in the 1990's or beyond, though this century one could seek them out online.)

I used to watch the Hawaii-based NFL pro bowl. But then it moved to the mainland, and before the Super Bowl, and I was among the many who lost interest, including the players, it being a non-contact spectacle these days.
(Here is a hit from '06 in Hawaii, three years before it left the islands: https://youtu.be/SC7Wx3zCiQo ) The league is wisely considering ditching the game, though some media pundits (like HOFer Shannon Sharpe) are urging a return to a post-Superbowl celebration in Hawaii.

The problem with the Pro Bowl is that it's a meaningless game at the end of an exhausting season. What incentive is there for the players to risk injury in a game like this?

... It stars Jeff Bridges as an old CIA agent who becomes a man of interest again after he and his wife did a disappearing trick years ago.
John Lithgow is also in it as the FBI Director, at least for 4 episodes. Funny, even though he's older, he looks just the same.
One small thing, Jeff Bridges either has a huge tongue that he keeps playing with when talking, or his speech impediment is real. He's mumbling more than usual.
I said "Excuse me" and bypassed Bridges at the Toronto International Film Festival back in the late '90s. I was beelining for whatisname. Uh, yeah, Lou Gossett, Jr., whom i then met and shook his hand and questioned. Since then came "I'm the dude!", and i instantly regretted my prior priorities.

Season 3 of The Boys. Started off slow but picks up steam by looking to the past.

Thanks Rye for the "Dark Winds" and "The Old Man" recommendations. Different style of dramas but equally enjoyable.

"Only Murders in the Building" season 2 starts on June 28th. Loved the first season so hoping it continues.

I recently watched a series called 'Evil' (2019).

A good balance of detective mystery and supernatural vs. religion themes.

Also it has that creepy guy who played Ben Linus on 'Lost' who is a superb actor.
