Title: Wisconsin EK Institute, Sejong-shi
Post by: Allpointseast on October 26, 2019, 08:45:39 am
Has anyone heard of this school? It's 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and it's a kindie hagwon in Sejong City. I was told classes were 40 minutes long and that I could have up to 6 or 7 classes per day. The recruiter hinted that the salary was 2.3 million won, but I am hoping to persuade them to pay me slightly more. The interviewer  asked me what salary I wanted.  It's a fairly long working day, after all.

The school is in Saerom jungang-ro. I think that is within Saerom-dong area of Sejong. Does anyone know Sejong-shi? Does anyone know of Wisconsin EK? Please let me know.

  Thank you.

Their advertisement reads:
LET'S BE BIlingual which is very #2019  ;D

This is a lessonplan...with a few grammar mistakes.

They claim to offer the IB programme. As an IB teacher I must disagree but hey, whatever right. Nobody knows what IB is anyways in Korea so indeed claim away!

Looking at the curriculum, they seem to have Jewish roots ?? They read the Talmud and have Havruta.
Their name 'Serom' might be a phonetically translated form of 'Shalom' come to think of it. Interesting if not slightly peculiar to advance Jewish ideology in a Korean kindergarten but having seen 7th day Advents and other Christian schools doing the same, who am I to wonder about that?

I think it is good that they have some reading books, but professionally I am always leaning towards a more active social participation of these very, very young students so basically I am wondering why there are tables and chairs in the room in the first place?

Lastly, mate they hate Brits!  ;D For the life of me that is one of the peculiarities of Korean hakwons which never ceases to amaze me. The entire planet absolutely adores British RP accents except for these hakwons in Korea. Also, their claim that they are affiliated with the Wisconsin University is a bit of a stretch, signing a mere intention to accept IB-graduates is not exactly related to any ESL programme in Korea whatsoever but whatever right, it's just a marketing gimmick after all.

The Jewish curriculum didn't put you off?

How about you replace reading the Talmud and Havruta with reading the Bible and do 40 min. of bible study 2x a week with tiny, young impressionable 6-year-olds, or teaching the Koran in English at a madrassa in Birmingham?

Religion and English study should not be a selling point for any regular school, wouldn't you agree?

Ask for 2.7 million.  Let them beat you down to 2.6ish.
