Title: 300,000 settlement allowance?
Post by: ellosunshine on September 09, 2019, 11:35:19 am
Does the settlement allowance come from the school or the office of education?
According to my contract, I should have received the settlement allowance at the start of my contract.
My co-teacher just told me that the school is waiting on the MOE to give my school the money/paperwork and then they will give that to me.
Is this really how it goes? Why would the contract state something else?

Yeah it can take up to a month, unfortunately.

The contract wording is (likely) more like "when he/she begins the contract" which just means that it's applicable for new contracts, not that you'll get it right away. The money does trickle down and most often comes with your first pay. If you get the settlement allowance or entrance flight allowance before that it's just luck.

*like a grandpa sitting on the veranda in his favourite chair*

They used to give it in cash on your first few days when I first came here, because obviously you can't set up a bank account until you get your alien card, and that can take at least a couple of weeks depending on how soon you can get over to immigration.

I received my settlement allowance the day I got to my apartment. My Co-T dropped me off, went to the school to get it and brought it to me. Some of my friends took a bit longer to get theirs.
