I used several VICE documentaries to let them think on policy changes. After having researched most of the available data they chose to give up on investing in renewables and came up with plans to escape the worst effects by migrating to Canada or Russia.

Nobody viewed becoming vegan as a viable option.  ;D  Next sessions clearly need to be on the ethics of who gets to live and survive in Canada and who has to go live with the Ruskis.

Intro PPT too large, had to split.

Download A and B.  copy and paste B into A.  last slide of A precedes first slide of B.

Kakao friends writing game:  Solve the puzzle.

Designed to be played in teams.  All students in each team write the answer in their English notebooks.  Choose one kakao friend and receive random points for your team.  Answers match with my intro PPT posted above.

I have a couple of free periods at the end of this unit, so I'm using it to let them watch part of  Cowspiracy. It's about the impact of animal agriculture on climate change.

I made some questions for them to fill in while watching the movie (an easy and a hard version...both in the same doc). The lesson before watching the movie, I will go over a preview ppt, and they will answer the first two questions (during lesson 11.5). Then, we will go over the rest of the questions to make sure that they understand them.

During my next free class we will go over a ppt with problems and solutions for helping the environment.
Then, they will make posters based on how they can save the earth.

I'm also showing them a short clip of one of Greta's speeches during another class.

***I added a few slides from respect_teaching to my PowerPoints, so thank you :)

UPDATE: I added some things to the problems and solutions project. It's too big of a file to attach, so you can download it from google drive below. Read the slide notes if you aren't sure what something is about.

Here is The Lorax (simplified version of the story) in PPT form. I used it last year but don't think my students are as high of a level to grasp it, this year. It also uses one of the songs from the movie to do a listening activity to fill in the lyrics. Use if you like ^^

4 corners game using a template from the site - https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/16x2GdIVVNR6ekGmDirL6G8b2RRHmj9sm?usp=sharing

11.3 - Virus game/review. The viruses are the 6 pictures used as a review at the beginning. First student to recognize the image comes and writes the sentence on the board (You should~) and you can label them 1-6.  https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1N0iJILrTiKBy8BJM4hJsDgF8J8iQ-I_p?usp=sharing

11.4 - Sparkle Die and Action Reading. Sparkle die uses and expands on the reading from the book. I also hyperlinked the casket to go back to the first reading so, when I start a new game, I can just click to go back to the first reading slide.  The last reading slide, the sparkles are by the casket, so you know to click it to return to beginning. https://drive.google.com/open?id=17c-_LzW3P4XzMAIO_n4Hyh-KdHCCbAzJ

The sound is a bit tinny on that video but I found it's also on Netflix with Korean subtitles.

That's great that it's on Netflix!  If I had enough time to show the whole thing, I'd use Netflix as well. I had to clip the video on my computer which doesn't have very good speakers.

Introductory PPT with & a 4 corners game, didn't realize there was already one posted here before I made it, whoops. Be sure to check this post every now & again as I'll be editing it if/when I make more files for the later parts of the lesson.

All Periods Intro: Pretty self explanatory. (Ideal for all periods)

Four Corners game: Slightly different from the other one posted here. Instructions included in the PPT. (Ideal for the first or second period)

Connect 4 game: Divide the class into 2 teams (Yellow VS Red), students ask the question "How about 00~ing _____?" in order to place their teams colour marker in the square. (Ideal for the first or second period)

I've removed off-topic posts that didn't contribute to lesson ideas or material related to this lesson. Do NOT try to turn this into a debate on how best to save the Earth.

Will elementary kids understand this or learn the key expressions in the book from this Vice documentary?

Yea, this is a terrible idea. It would maybe be good for high school students with a fair English level.

I am transferring to a new place for second semester, and I believe the students will continue to study online next fall, so I made PPTs for each lesson for the rest of the book.

I made two PPTs with my voice over for this lesson. I made a similar ones for previous lessons in this book, so I will write the same there that I wrote in previous posts. The PPTs are from the book's website (I think my coteacher downloaded them off of the company's website last year) and I recorded my voice over the slides. The music is royalty free music from  bensounds.com.

If you would like to use this PPT and record your own voice, from the first slide my voice over is the speaker on the right. You can delete those and then record your voice. On the first slide, the speaker for the music is on the left. It is set to play at the lowest volume on a loop for the entire presentation. If you want to keep the music, don't delete the left speaker on the first slide!

Korean English Teachers: you are welcome to use this PPT with my voice for your school.

If you need to change the PPT to a video, you can use the export feature to to convert it to a mp4, however, it doesn't work with all versions of Office. The version of Office must have a subscription in order to use this feature.

Hi everyone, this is an Among Us PPT game I made using another among us ppt I found (i dont remember where, so if you recognize this as your work thank you for doing all the hard work, I hope you don't mind that I changed it.)
It's a speaking/reading activity that I used as the game for period 2
It could also work as a warm up but my students are very low level so I only used it as a game.

All the students stand at the beginning and the game ends when there is either 3 students or 1 student, you can decide.
When the emergency alert button is "pressed" the student that read that box is eliminated as the imposter and must sit down.  You can change this to that student accuses another student of being the imposter (so they eliminate their friends) but I found that with my kids, they took too long to decide on someone.
This game can easily take up to 10+ mins and there are enough slides for 2 rounds.
There are around 9 "emergency alert" buttons on each slide, I have an average of 22-24 students so that works perfect playing with 2 slides per round.

Hope all that makes sense!

Actually the boxes work perfectly for the TVs at my school, but anyone is free to change and modify as you see fit.

Agreed, my school has a projector and we have no problem seeing it. I'm sure it just depends on the classroom set up. Thanks for the game!
