Yes!! I'm glad someone made this thread.
Everytime I hang out with foreigners, we all complain about and compare Korea to our countries.

SEXISM!

Now that I have your attention

So stoked with one of my female middle school students who completely crushed it in the boggle monthly competition.

I taught her last year in elementary and all her girl friends in 6th grade were holding her back and stopping her from engaging in classes, it got to the point where I felt I was only teaching the boys, even though I went out of my way to try and engage the female learners in the lesson.

So now she's free of those friends that held her back and she's killing it in classes, it's so nice to see and it's one of the few times I can see concrete evidence that I've actually had a meaningful impact on kids.

She actually got the highest score in the entire middle school and she's only 1st grade (they all used the same boggle layouts for the competition).

Yayness! Congrats on making a meaningful impact on your kids!  ;D ;D

Because I had an open class on Wednesday, I taught an extra lesson that day which means today (our usual day) I didn't have to teach that class. My after school double also got cancelled because some of our students are participating in a sports competition. That means I taught exactly ONE lesson today! And it's FRIDAY!!Whoop!

My new coteacher is so sweet and seems like she's hardworking. She wants to plan the lessons together, which is a drastic change from the old co who just ignored me. I think we'll get along well. :)

One of the teachers brought a guitar from the music room into the teachers' office.

Another teacher mentioned I play a little; now I have "homework" -- to learn the House of the Rising Sun by next week. Lol

Now we're just squandering the rest of the work day playing on instruments. Hahaha. The principal even wandered in and out and didn't seem to mind. Friday chill day.

My primary instrument is violin though, so the teacher said we should form a band. Lol! I am so down for some jamming

I have been informed by some coworkers that everyone envies my mug (it's a Minecraft creeper head), particularly the PE teacher.

Apparently he has been caught eyeing it. They [jokingly] told me I should hide it to keep it safe.

Well... Just been informed that on Friday my 1st period class has been cancelled as they are practicing for sports day AND my 3rd and 4th periods have been cancelled too as we are having a performance about not smoking.

So I just have 2nd and 5th periods to do, a 3rd grade class and a 4th grade class.

NICE!

All my kids have a two-day camping trip yesterday and today, which means this is my second day of being all alone at school, drinking my coffee in peace and being productive. ;D

My coteacher and I used a chicken puppet to demonstrate some action words in 3rd grade, and for the last few weeks whenever we go to class the kids whine and beg for the chicken puppet. I got tired of it so I told them I fried and ate it and now they don't ask for it any more.

That would've caused me to put this in the ranting and venting thread  :P
