^always a fabulous discovery! Like when you find $5 in your pocket that you neglected to remember existed.

Today I went to the travel school that has a student who's really into drawing.  I have a sketchbook I'd been doodling in and the kid was always super interested, so I figured I'd just make a gift of it to him after I'd copied the pages for myself.  (once he asked me "how much?" for a page. Lol kid, for you how about free?)

Kid was so delighted when he realized he could keep it!  Like his eyes nearly bugged out of his head.  Then in class the activity was "joining clubs" and I made them answer "why."  This kid made a "drawing club" and declared, "Drawing is my life!"

That's so cute! Last year I'd make fill in the blank sheets but I'd draw Finn and Jake having a conversation for the kids to fill in and they loved them. Some of them would draw pictures for me and I had one 6th grader draw the freakiest picture of a weird guy in a mask. He told me if I don't put the picture on my fridge the guy in the picture will kill me in my sleep. He had a terrible sense of humor just like me so I still have it hanging up. Not quite as cute as your story...

Yikes. 2 spooky.

I miss Dr. Genderpotato, too.

I think I messed up that grade by letting them watch Goosebumps sometimes if they were good. They'd be really creepy sometimes like this one girl who kept telling me she wanted to steal my eyes because they were beautiful. They all decided during a unit on what career they wanted that they wanted to be horror make up artists or make a living as a Lotteria straw thief... The girls would make the nastiest fake wounds on their legs out of lip gloss and toilet paper and come into class screaming that the boys cut them. I miss my weird class :'( I don't know why I was the only teacher in the school who liked that grade...

That girl needs to watch/read Coraline.  Or maybe she's already seen it...

Lol we watched that in class XD I let them pick a movie to watch before christmas and they didn't want a christmas movie. They actually wanted to watch Krampus after I told them about Krampus legends (they said if he came for them they'd dropkick him and run away) but I was like "ahahahhahaha no." XD I threw in some courage the cowardly dog too. I'm a bad influence. I'm pretty sure my weird just rubbed off on them...

And I got chewed out by my manager for letting the kids watch 'Arthur' because she thought there was something objectionable about it.

Literally imagine.

LOL omg. My CT suggested Coraline for my 5th graders cuz her daughter was in that class and wanted to see it. My CT let them watch Spirited Away too tho so she was pretty okay with letting them watch weird stuff.

My husband and I are brand new EPIK teachers and have been here without proper internet access/phones for about a month. Yesterday the internet guy came to our flat and finally hooked us up for internet in our flat (it's included in our rent, but coteachers weren't sure so took forever to get the right guy), same night a friend helps us set up phone contracts and new phones! So now we feel fancy and today has been five hundred messages of "I'm messaging you from the street with no wifi!" and "I'm sending you a photo just because I can!" It is a great feeling :)

So after a lot of dicking around sorting out my schedule, it looks like this year will be much easier
than last:

School 1 - Terrible 6th graders from last year are gone
             - Teach one less class

School 2 - New CT sucks at English, but wants to split class times, so my teaching time is effectively
               halved.

School 3 - CT who let students scream and call her rude names, because "students are precious
need to be loved and need to have fun", has transferred to a new school. I teach alone
but have free reign to discipline as I see fit. Also one less class!

I just got my yellow name certification.
Ko fills half his luggage with instant noodles for his international business travels, a lesson he learned after assuming on his first trip that three packages would suffice for six days. “Man, was I wrong. Since then, I always make sure I pack enough.”

But man, was the air quality bad this last week!
I'm looking forward to the rainy season just to flush all that crap out!

     There we go!
But seriously, I'm curious about why so many people compare areas with problematic air quality to LA. Is LA really that bad? Insofar as I know, it's not an industrial mecca, and its location on the coast would mean that it gets onshore breezes to help disperse all that toxic crap.
Looking at air pollution rankings, LA seems to hold a steady 5th place on many charts.

Historically, LA was the city which came to mind when the mention of bad American air came up. But there have been a lot of improvements there lately. (Get credit to liberals for that one.)

Most populous cities in America: (top ten; over a mil)

Well in my town I could see the hills in the distance, so it was starting to clear up yesterday. Unfortunately it came back with a vengeance overnight.

You live in a town not a city and yet the air is still bad? I'm guessing you live on the West coast?...more coal plants there and yellow dust blows over from China...

First lesson of the day was cancelled for "special classes". I have no idea what that means, but am excited to drink my coffee in peace this morning.

Another issue in rural Korea is agricultural burning.

However the students may feel, I'm having a good time so far with the new coT!  It's like.. we're actually coteaching.     Guess we'll see how long this active involvement lasts.  Fingers crossed it does, though.

Had an open class today and I was uncertain how the parents were taking it (there were like 5 mothers who stopped by) as they looked super stern and weren't smiling, but turns out 3 of them had filled out evaluation forms and given us perfect scores on everything

My coT also said he overheard some of the parents saying they were pleased.  Whew!  Glad that's over with!

That's true I think.
