I realised somewhere along the line I lost my love for reading so I have decided to go back to the genres that interest me the most - sci-fi/fantasy and murder/mystery/thriller

Murder at the Vicarage - Agatha Christie
Mistoborn Trilogy: The Hero of Ages - Bnrandon Sanderson.
A Time to Kill - John Grisham
The Seventy-seven Clocks - Christopher Fowler
Ten-second staircase - Christopher Fowler

Christopher Fowler is really good. I love his writing and how vividly he portrays his characters. If you read Wheel of Time, you might enjoy the Mistborn Trilogy. Have yet to get to Robert Jordan but it's been on the list for years!

Just started reading Grisham in the last 6 months - really enjoying him. Agatha - well she was my first adult author so the love is real!

If you are a Sci Fi fan I would recommend you check out the Commonwealth Saga by Peter Hamilton.

Cheers and thanks for the recommendation @Specter13

'Wolf Hall' by Hilary Mantel. It's... long. She's a talented author but if you're not particularly enthused by English history then I'd recommend reading her book 'Beyond Black'; it's shorter, stranger, and dark but very enjoyable.

Yes Man by Danny Wallace.

It's nothing like the movie and is probably more fun if you've lived in London and can pick up on a lot of the location references around the city. It's a great motivational book to read before an adventure!

Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng. A book basically about a beloved teenaged daughter's death and how poor or nonexistent communication and honesty can really destroy ppl. Just finished it. I give it 3 stars out 5.

The Absolutist by John Boyne.  It's set in WWI.  I may read The Boy in the Striped Pajamas next, by the same author.

Getting hyped for the new film and reading Jurassic Park again

I wish I'd read Jurassic Park when I was 13--at that age it would be the greatest book ever. Doesn't hold up quite as well as an adult, but it's good fun.

The Storied Life of AJ Fikry By Gabrielle Zevin

Summary from Amazon:
A. J. Fikry’s life is not at all what he expected it to be. He lives alone, his bookstore is experiencing the worst sales in its history, and now his prized possession, a rare collection of Poe poems, has been stolen. But when a mysterious package appears at the bookstore, its unexpected arrival gives Fikry the chance to make his life over--and see everything anew.

I read Jurassic Park in 3rd grade.  Along with "The Lost World", which the dad of this girl I had a crush on was also reading.

I found that girl on facebook later.  She's a drug addict now :(

Actually no, she's a corporate lawyer.  And had a perfect college GPA.

...I hate myself.

Just read a news article about this guy, so I've bought his book (for Kindle). I figure even if it's no good, he deserves some of my money, plus it looks really interesting.

I just finished Dog Will Have His Day by Fred Vargas.

It's a murder mystery.  Her books are translated from French to English.  I've now read all her books.  I hope she writes another soon.

John Scalzi's "Old Man's War".

It's been on my to-read list for years. I'm enjoying it so much, I wish I'd read it sooner. I got about halfway through in two days, but it's not exactly Peter F. Hamilton-long. It's kind of like Douglas Adams meets David Weber. Short and sweet comedy-military-sci-fi. Absolutely hilarious and eminently readable even if you're not a complete sci-fi nerd a la moi.

I recently read The Fire Seekers by Richard Farr. It's the first of a planned triology with the second book coming out next year I believe. I suggest it to any linguaphiles.

That gave me a bit of chuckle. If you haven't yet read Pandora Star by him, excellent book. I am going to start his stand alone book Falling Dragon soon.

Fallen Dragon is the first book of his I read. I went on to read every other book he wrote. Great author.

Just finished reading Lush Life by Richard Price. Never read any of his work before but I will definately be going out of my way to read everything he has ever written. Easily the best police procedural I have ever read.

In my quest to re-read everything Peter F. Hamilton has written in chronological order, I'm up to Pandora's Star which I first read back around when it came out. It's still good the second time through, though Hamilton loses some of his punch on re-read.

I am waiting for the books he writing that take place between Judas unchained and the the void books.
