Guide to investing in Gold and Silver ... by Michael Maloney.

It provides a rich insight into economic cycles, how they relate to investing, history and how you can benefit from them and why focus on precious metals.

If you liked Omnivore's Dilemma, you'll love Hope's Edge.  What differentiates it from the former is that it provides practical solutions.

My girlfriend is reading that  :D

She couldn't recommend it high enough, so it's next on the menu.

It can be tough to find books here, eh!

Have you heard of What the Book?  www.whatthebook.com
They have hundreds of English titles that arrive at your door in 2-10 days.

As for me, I've been reading:

Hope's Edge - Frances Moore Lappe
Omnivore's Dilemma - Michael Pollan

West with the Night - Beryl Markham
No Picnic on Mount Kenya - Felice Benuzzi

The first two are about the food security/organic farming/industrial food industry etc... and the latter two are anecdocal portrayals of various African adventures. All four are excellent reads!

Omnivore's Dilemma is my favorite book!!! I absolutely love Michael Pollen! If you're interested in food/security/farming etc, all of Pollen's books are great: Botany of Desire, In Defense of Food, and even Food Rules (a really really quick read!).

How's Hope's Edge?

just acquired 1984. read it years ago, prob in 1984. naw, j/k! don't remember when i read it last.
just finished Paulo Coelho's the Zahir, which I don't particularly recommend. too melodramatic, whiny, self centered and long winded, but it still managed to hold my interest for all that.
just finished Fish! for life, a remarkable way to achieve your dreams. don't particularly recommend. its book two and not as stand alone as I would like.
just finished the mysterious benedict society by trenton lee stewart. kid's book, but I liked it.

currently...

the seven laws of the learner
how to teach almost anything to practically anyone
by bruce wilkinson

I think this book is outstanding, but its written by a bible teacher about how to teach the bible. however the techniques are true for any teaching field, but if you don't care for bible stuff, don't bother.

I'm a sucker for historical biographies. At the moment I'm reading Antonia Fraser's Mary Queen of Scots

I'm in the middle of "The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak

It's pretty amazing so far, takes place in WW2 Germany and is centered around a 10 year old German girl who is sent to live with a foster family as her mother cannot afford to take care of her.
The story is also narrated by Death, which may seem strange, but it oddly fits.

I have a kindle, so can be reading several books at once. Currently, however, I'm reading through all the books by Kelley Armstrong. Her books are rather interesting, and have me hook line and sinker!

Buying books in my area is impossible, likewise finding books at the local library in English, so my kindle is a life-send. A friend of mine got one at Christmas, and showed me, and my husband decided to get one for me. They're great!

Anywhere I go, I've got up to 200 books at present with me, as my kindle is all but skin-grafted to me!

I had been meaning to check his stuff out for a while

Resurrection by Leo Tolstoy, and it's much shorter than Anna Karenina or War and Peace, and so far quite good.

Lots of good recommendations.  Glad I found this thread.  I'm reading A New History of Korea by Ki-baik Lee.  I bought it at home before coming here.  I am finally close to finishing after picking it up occasionally for a year.  It's pretty slow going, but I do have a clearer pitcure of Korea's ancient history.

A side note: Does anyone know a good place to order Spanish books here in Korea.  I am also rereading "Vivir para contarla" by Gabriel Garcia Marquez, but need a new Spanish book soon.
