I'm paying 31,500 a month for a combined Cable/Internet package.  Not the fastest internet, but it doesn't seem too bad to me...

I'm paying about 27k for a 10meg line.  Unfortunately since I'm out in the countryside it doesn't look like they'll be upgrading the lines to the optic ones any time soon...

I've got the same 36K - 12 months thing that a few others have. First month free, though, so it's like 33K.

Can you get internet without signing up for a year around here?

I've been here for almost a month and don't have internet at home and haven't missed it, as I'm out and about most days. However, for the rainy/cold season I'll probably want it...so I'm thinking of only having it about 6 months a year...

I didn't get my internet hooked up until a month after I arrived. My coteacher, who talked to the internet company for me, said that I had to sign up for a year, but breaking the contract comes with a 30,000 won penalty as long as you maintain the contract for at least six months. Guess I'll see how true that is when I break the contract in October.

I am with Qook and i pay 31,000 a month (but i have a wireless router and share my internet with the NET in the flat next to me, so it is only 15,000 each a month. As far as i know, you will indeed have to pay for breaking the contract. it is the same with cellphone contracts. (i don't know what will happen if you are paying by direct debit and you just close your bank account down when you leave and just not tell them though).

I'm paying 36,860 won/ month for mine through KT. I don't believe I got the 1st month free, so it's actually that. Not sure about the speed, but it certainly doesn't seem to be as fast as advertised for Korea.

Awesome, thanks...I think I might just do that...wait for a bit then break it if I have to...I'm really not feeling the need for it right now, I get all my internetting done at school and there is so much to explore once 4:30 hits that I can't justify sitting in my little place staring at the screen for hours.

I'm paying just under 40 000 a month which I had heard was a lot for standalone internet which isn't part of a internet/tv bundle.

I pay about the same. I was told at the time (by an unreliable source, my coteacher) that I couldn't get it much cheaper becuase I'd only be signing a one year contract with them.

That sounds about right, I'm paying about 36000 won a month. As far as I know you can only get a 1 year contract.

Can you get internet without signing up for a year around here?

You can get Internet without signing up for a contract, but you will need to pay for a ~30,000 installation fee (regardless of the company) without a contract, and the cost/month is slightly higher. Signing up for a one year contract will get you out of having to pay that fee.

My internet is included with my apartment. It a 4mbps line. I dont know if its shared or not, but my speeds seem to be good. Should i get a faster line or would that just be silly?

i believe i pay about 35,000W with a year contract for 100 megabits per second with SK broadband.

http://www.skbroadband.com/eng/iproduct/evalley.asp
http://www.skbroadband.com/eng/company/foreigners.asp (getting a person who actually speaks english might be difficult, so ask someone to help)

LG doesn't give internet to foreigners.
KT doesn't provide service at my place.
