No, anyone can visit Yeonpyeongdo if they're willing to endure a long ferry ride. Not sure it would be worth your time, nor would visiting the site of that recent building collapse or the former location of Sampung.

If you're a teacher, you might try a North Korea trip through organizations such as Young Pioneers based in Beijing (trip originates in Beijing).   If you are in fact a teacher, I'd wait to the last vacation of your final contract as public school teachers both Korean and foreign aren't able to enter.

I'll keep that in mind if I do have time. Right now I'm sort of trying to explore the stuff in my town and province. Thanks for the information.

Well in that case, I guess I won't be visiting the north anytime soon.

You can go to North Korea and still be a teacher. I went with Young Pioneers in 2012, and the trip was quite an experience. The only issue is that you can't list being a teacher in South Korea as your job when you apply for the NK visa. My friends and I all listed our previous jobs back home and got in without a problem. So if you want to give it a shot, go for it.

I have a friend who works as a TALK scholar and he visited North Korea. It on my list of places to go to but in the meanwhile, I have to save money :(

Update: Happy X Sowon

Although not photography related, my students and I made a music video with Pharreall William's "Happy" in the background.
