What are you looking at?! - The View from your Window
« on: February 22, 2013, 11:13:20 AM »
I think that what you wake up to outside your window can really shape your opinion of a place.
This thread is a simple one. Post a picture of the view directly outside your apartment in Korea. Show us what you see, exactly as it is.
This isn't a contest, just a matter of curiosity. If you are newer does this affect your view of Korea as a whole?

If you have an amazing view - amazing, show me.
If you have a mouldy brick wall - post that too.

I got lucky in Jeju, but growing up my view was a grey brick wall with crappy grafitti, so I think I'm due

Here are 2.
This Morning

A random afternoon

Thanks

Good idea for a thread.  I'm not going to post pics of mine because it's unremarkable.  I do have an obstructed view of one of the 'mountains' in Seoul, though.  This is the first apartment I've had here without a view of those moldy brick walls you mentioned.  Right now my window is just perfectly placed to be between two buildings, if I was on either side of me it would be a wall and/or window from a neighbouring building.  Only 3rd floor, but at least it faces the back alleys instead of the busy street in front.

Nice idea! I've lived in 3 places so far and my view has gotten progressively worse.. no pictures I'm afraid!

#1 Villa in Yangpyeong: mountains, fields and some low-rise buildings.. very nice!
#2 Apartment in Uiwang: nothing special - 10th floor view of a typical city
#3 Officetel in Anyang: I can see a CGV, a motel, 2 room salons, several 노래빠 and a 키스방..

I reckon you're probably gonna win this one, OP... that's a spectacular view to have.

If only, they only sell cheap Korean food and below those beautiful pipes is a courtyard where all and sundry meet afterwards to have fist fights, verbally abuse each other or throw up. This continues till 4 am most nights.

Gangnam style !!!

I did this when The Daily Dish was hosted on The Atlantic. It was always pretty amazing how the commentord could source just about any location with shocking accuracy.

I think confusedsaffer is going to take some beating

I moved to Budapest a few years ago and they have a tradition over there around recycling their old stuff. Twice a year everyone collectively gets rid of old and unneeded household items (fridges, tables etc) They leave this stuff in piles out on the street for people to root through in case they want any of the stuff before the council comes around a few days later and cleans everything up. The better piles are guarded by local Roma gypsies who want to claim all this stuff for scrap or sell it on. They will sit out there day and night protecting their pile until they can shift the stuff/sell it on. So when i moved into my apartment there was a trash pile like this immediately under my window complete with crazy old gypsy men beating a fridge to death day and night for a week.
Not what i was expecting, i'll be honest.

Used to have a beautiful view of the beach and surrounding islands......now I have a view of a new Lotte Castle complex being built. It's loud, and doesn't stop.....even on national holidays........

Don't worry, they have found some big cracks in those structures so with a bit of luck they will demolish them and then you will have your view back.  ;D ;D

A dozen apartment buildings and our gymnasium. But I'm right in the center above the dirt playground so I feel like a Roman emperor looking down on my hangookin gladiators.

Occasionally I have a wonderful view into an Ajjumas outhouse toilet, which she doesn't always close the door when she is using it. Images that can never be unseen sadly...

It's seriously not even worth taking a picture of. I have one, though, just to show people back home the misery and filth and poverty I'm living in. Maybe I'll post it later if I can muster enough energy to care when I get home and am not bored out of my mind.
