I recommend "John Dies in the End".  It's just very out there..  it's not really scary enough to be horror, but has horror moments.  It's pretty out there.

John Dies at the End is pretty good.

Cloud Atlas is the best move I've seen in the last few years!! I highly recommend it!!

Silver Linings Playbook. Best movie I've seen this year. Objectively, just a decent movie, but for me it was the best. God, so incredible.

Yeah, I'm gonna watch that soon. Jennifer Lawerence is most likely gonna get best actress at the Oscars for her work in this.

Gonna see that today. I heard mixed things about it, critics were really divided. That sometimes means the sign of a great film.

The Thieves, 도독들 - is a great movie, there are places to find online with English subtitles.

Where can you get this movie online? I've been trying to find it to no avail! It's the highest grossing Korean film ever and everyone seems to love it. They say it's like the Korean Ocean's 11.  Give me a torrent site!

My favourite films last year were Kill List, this British horror film that's more like 3 different types of films rolled into one and Killer Joe this dark comedic crime-drama with Matthew McCoughnehey who's acting is at his finest. I highly recommend you guys to check these out.

I've seen some of the best picture nominees like Les Miserables, Zero Dark Thirty, Django Unchained and Argo. Out of these 4, Zero Dark Thirty was the most impressive while Django and Argo I feel while are good, they're not worthy of the really high amount of praise they're getting. Les Miserables was just awful in my opinion.  You can't get into the characters and the story. The constant singing from some of the leads was just unintentionally funny too. I can't believe this got nominated.

I just finished watching "Struck By Lightning." I'm gonna have to say that initially watched it only for Chris, but to tell the truth, it wasn't at all as boring as some other teen movies out there. I liked it a lot. Thought I'd throw it out there to see if anyone else might like it too ^^

You do realize they are singing because it is a MUSICAL! And the movie was trying to do justice to the musical not just be a Les Miserables based on the book. I was quite struck by Anne Hathaway, but I will give you the young couple (Amanda S. and I forget the dude's name) were not good at all, but that is a common complaint from the musical as well. The characters were just not developed as well as some of the others.

I heard Russell Crowe had to have singing lessons for the movie... guess they didn't work...  :P

I do realize it's a musical and that's why they're singing, but their singing wasn't that great all the time and I think it felt even worse because of how emotionally distant I felt to the charactors on the screen. But yeah, Anne Hathaway was really, really good. She's the only one I cared about in the entire film and I can see why she's nominated for best supporting actress. Unfortunately, she's only in the film for like 15 mintutes

I watched IN ANOTHER COUNTRY last night. It really sucked! There is this decent French actress staring in a Korean movie and it's just a badly written script put together by a team of monkeys and it was totally pointless! Anyone could have written a better story!! What a waste of time!!

I just watched Moonrise Kingdom.

It's where simplicity breeds beauty and complexity. Wes Anderson, yo.

Could you proffer a suggestion for one wishing to ease themselves into the genre?

Les Miserables was awful.

The singing was not only bad, it wasn't 'produced/engineered' or whatever. From what I understand they just micd the characters and didn't do any more sound production after that. When you pair it with 'produced' background music it just didn't work. And there was no character development, just people always singing. I only watched an hour of it but that was enough. One of my fav stories ever but this film adaptation sucks.

Ugh...that movie was pretty stale. On paper, it should have worked. It even has Alan Arkin in it, but it ended up having really unfunny jokes and there was this one viagra joke they stretched on for 30 mins. almost. The ending was pretty bad too.

Avoid.

Really not sure if any folk have put these up already but I really couldn't be arsed checking..

If revenge movies are your cup of tea then check out 'Dead Man's Shoes'...  Low budget English movie made by Shane Meadows, same guy who directed 'This is England'.  Both good movies but 'Dead Mans Shoes' is the one for me, plus there's an awesome sound track.

I hear ya. Lol. Especially with the viagra joke. Still I found the acting was real good (of course), I LOVE IT when Pacino plays some sort of conman, and hey, it was a good use of my two hours instead of watching a serious movie that will put me in a funk. Still haven't gotten around to checking out Argo...

Argo's a good thriller with some surprising comedy elements. It again has Alan Arkin in it. I just didn't think it as amazing as the critics are saying, but still worth a watch.

Saw Lincoln and finally The Theives! (도둑들). I found The Theives at isohunt.com! Just search for the Korean title. The problem is, is that there's no subtitles but you can get them through subtitleseeker.com at this url:

http://www.subtitleseeker.com/Download-movie-2698979/Thieves+2012+DVDRip+AC3+x264-LooKMaNe

It's  a Turksish site but there's a blatant blue rectangle you press to download the subs. They're almost perfect...verified them from another Korean.

The Theives was pretty good. I can't believe how good the quality of K-films are compared to the trash music scene. Entertaining heist film with the usual Korean unpredictable film twists strewn throughout. Can see why it was so big over the summer.

Lincoln was horrible. There's no depth to Lincoln's character ...he's treated as a one note hero. Of course they can't add any depth as it would make him "controversial". On top of it, it's just a bunch of people in stuffy rooms going back in forth about passing the 13th amendment. A lot of expository dialogue and cheesy reject music from Saving Private Ryan. Can't believe the hype.

Today, the wife dragged me into Les Miserable and here are my thoughts:

OK, it's not Broadway. They aren't opera stars. We all got the memo. I found the story fairly engaging. The singins wasn't that shabby. (Russell Crow likely played hookie from a few lessons.) In the last quarter it got much better. Th eacting was very touching and the story made me cry a little. (OK, I'm a sensitive guy.) I thought that overall it was a tad long and lulled and dragged in the middle like fingernails accross a chalkboard, but very well done. My main complaint with the music was that there were very few lows -bass. Lots of treble. Very weird sound system. (I'm not sure if that was one of the things that Jrong was complaining about or not.) In conclusion, wait for it to come out on video.

I thought Argo sucked.

It was a movie about nerds in meetings. Remember that demotivational poster about meetings?: "None of us is as dumb as all of us". I hate meetings. I'll settle for OCD, hyperfocused Liam Neeson playing in some incredibly unrealistic capture/rescue movie over a movie about meetings.
