Last night I had to watch a horror and chose "The Midnight Meat Train." The story revolves around a photographer and, as is usually the case with a central character being involved in the creation of images, the cinematography was better than decent throughout.

The movie is a good horror (no porn, heh), although not very psychological, and was the cause of a few grimaces and several smiles.
It's nice to be important but more important to be nice.

Saw ARGO last night. It's a Hollywood fictionalisation of the Hostage crisis. Not too shabby.

I want to see it also.  It's the FIRST MOVIE since True Grit (2010) to get top spot at box office in its 3rd week of release.  That's amazing.  The word of mouth has kept this moving going strong!  We're not used to see a movie drop only 13% a week.  Usually it drops 50-60% in its first week, then 30-40% every week after.  Most movies make 60% of their total domestic gross in the first week alone.

Argo reminds me of Titanic (1997), when Titanic opened to a meager $28 million opening weekend.  It managed to rake in a grand total of $600 million domestic.

whatever movies that have the most seeds on piratebay.org with at least a 7 rating on imdb.

This^^ and anything on the recent dvd rentals list on imdb.com http://www.imdb.com/boxoffice/rentals - it guarantees thepiratebay will have decent quality copies.

Just watched "The Flowers of War" with Christian Bale, quite a moving and graphically brutal/violent film about the rape of Nanking (China) by Japan in 1937.

Last night I saw The Fountain. It was amazing. I encourage you to watch it, quietly, in private. It has a great soundtrack, the cinematography carries you away, the story is bold, mesmerizing, passionate, gentle, unforgettable. Once you 'get it' it takes you further and further. It's not 2010 or 2001.

Had a chill Saturday night in the house tonight and decided to watch Captain America and 50/50.

Captain America not bad, 50/50 surprised me. Love my new Smart TV because I can put my USB into it and watch movies ;D

I LOVED Skyfall.
I didn't. It was okay but it's one of the lesser Bond films, lacking continuity and actually dragged a bit from the underground scene until the final scene began. The last Bourne film was better! better acting, more drama, some good tense moments.

ARGO was better than I expected, seemed really 1979 in Tehran, with good emotion, realistic crowd scenes, a solid supporting cast. Affleck was underwhelming in his attempt to be charismatic while aloof and inward, a bit miscast in this film but decent enough.

SAVAGES is another new film at the theaters and it reminded me of Point Break, but instead of surfer lifestyle, it's pot growers living the rich Californian coastal lifestyle. They could have called it the Not-so-Fast and Furious. The best acting in this Oliver Stone film is by the two bad guys (Benicio Del Toro and Salma Hayek) who steal every scene they're in. The movie has more fear than action, except for one bloody sequence which was a bit of a lame sidebit (no spoiler. but when you see it you'll know what I mean). I liked the film except when I think about it. It's got good visuals and is suspenseful. The last line of the script though, blah.

I've decided that the reason that you hate the movies that you do is because you're old.

Skyfall had absolutely everything in it that makes Bond great PLUS incredible actors, a great script, character development and all of the classic Bond icons. The bits in China were beyond gorgeous-- practically every single frame was a work of art… the only stumble for me was the bits in the London crowds where all of the extras were trying super hard not to look at the camera and flip out because they were in a Bond movie.

And unlike every single Brosnan, the Daltons, and most of the Moores, there are actually things that stick in your mind after you watch this film. This is top 5 for sure… even better than some of the Connery films.

Speaking of old; I watched 'The Man from Earth' last night - a sort of extended 'Twilight Zone' with a bit of 'Cast Away II', if it was ever made. Worth watching, although not for the special effects or acting.

i finished re-watching the lord of the rings trilogy this week. took me four days to get through the extended versions! but now i feel prepared for the hobbit.

on this re-watch i noticed a lot of references to the hobbit, that i hadn't realised before. i think when the new trilogy is finished, the six movies will run together very cohesively. can't wait!

Saw Skyfall on Wednesday night, really enjoyed it, it didn't feel like a normal Bond film which was refreshing.

this. (director is darren aronofsky - requiem for a dream, black swan)

ive been watching (some cases re-re-re-re-watching) everything put out by studio ghibli. the most recent and unfamiliar one to me was The Cat Returns. If you like cats, or think they are funny animals you would probably find the movie entertaining and fun.

Going to watch Casablanca this weekend just to see if it really is an all time top movie.

Whatever you think makes no difference to its status!  It IS an all-time great film, as generation after generation have affirmed. Few disagree, though few Koreans have even seen it, and don't seem to appreciate it.

Casablanca is worth watching today because the timeless things in film -- good writing, acting, and directing -- are all great in that movie. But what makes it an all-time great isn't necessarily apparent if you watch it without context -- it's helpful, but certainly not necessary, to watch and  understand what most dramatic American movies were like before Casablanca, to kind of get an idea as to what sets it apart.

But really, it's often a hilarious movie. "My men are rounding up twice the number of usual suspects."
