KEB Bank ATM Question
« on: November 15, 2011, 01:47:19 PM »
Does anyone know if I can use a foreign ATM card at a stand-alone KEB ATM (not at a branch ATM).

Thanks for your help.

I don't think so. The Foreign Card ATMs are usually in public transport places in cities; Metro stations, bus stations, that sort of thing.

Still don't have an ARC, so I am having difficulty withdrawing money from my domestic American account.  I am in Yangsan and I can't seem to find an ATM that works with foreign cards.

Anyone know of one?

Welcome to Korea!
When I first arrived I used my foreign card (from South Africa) at a few different banks. KEB is usually the best bet. Although once my card was not accepted. I also made use of Woori bank ATMs. The ATMs usually have an English option and will ask you if you are using a foreign or domestic card. If there is no domestic card option, then you'll have to find another ATM.

But like Setaro said, places of transport usually have the most accessible ATMs.

Good luck!

Pardon my surprise on this one but I have used my foreign debit card from the states at atms here before.  Once at a casino and another time at a Woori bank atm an hour outta Seoul

Yeah, they should work. I've used my Canadian and American bank cards at all types of ATMs in Korea and they've worked fine.

Good luck!

Thanks for your responses.

I have tried a few different ATMs and my card hasn't worked.  Could this be because I am not in a major city?

The only place my card has worked has been at KEB branches.  Which makes things difficult because there aren't any close to me in Yangsan.

remember that you have to talk with your bank at home before using your card here in most cases. they authorize it on a country to country basis to prevent fraud.

Look for an ATM with credit card logos on it - Cirrus, Plus, Maestro, those symbols.  Those should accept foreign cards.  All the KEB ATMs I've seen accept foreign cards, but I've only looked in Seoul...

Yangsan's KEB is near Nambu Market. They have about 5 ATMs so maybe one will work.

Also my UK VISA Debit card worked with the ATM in Yangsan (metro) station.
